Hi Friends!
I just released my new Gingerbread Pancake video tutorial. It’s a fun way to kick of the Christmas season! Check it out here

It’s been on my heart for awhile now to give out Bibles through my pancake art ministry and I’m super happy to announce that I’m partnering with Faithgirlz today to make that dream a reality!! Yay!

Faithgirlz will be giving out 5 Bibles this Christmas season and all you need to do is enter below!

If your not familiar with Faithgirlz, it’s an awesome Christian company which pours into the lives of Tween age girls 9-12 years old by creating Bibles, devotionals, fictional stories and products for them.

My daughter and I have enjoyed reading together several of their fiction books. There’s a real need out there for faith filled fiction for this tween age and their company really fills this void in the marketplace.

I help teach a Tween Club at our church and so this age bracket is really close to my heart.

Isn’t this owl Bible for the giveaway sooooo adorable?!! As an added bonus, it has features written in it by Nancy Rue. We love her books!

2. New Series in Pancake Art!

Hi Friends!

Today is the start of our brand new series in pancake art on my YouTube channel called, "Lessons from a Whale!" Check it out...let me know what you think!

This whale is actually a Nutella sandwhich: two layers of pancake art whales with a layer of Nutella in-between. We LOVE Nutella! We just recently discovered it. I have a peanut allergy so this is a fabulous alternative!

My son's whale went diving into the jello! It got a little stuck-ha!

Blessings,
Jenni

4. Pinwheel Pancake Art Tutorial

July 4th is coming up and I thought I would share with you this fun pinwheel pancake art tutorial that I created!

Supplies for Pancake Art Pinwheels

3 Condiment Squirt Bottles
Blue, Red Food Coloring (I suggest Americolor Soft Gel Paste)
3 Cups
Extras: M&Ms and Popsicle Sticks, cream cheese
Spoons
Large Mixing Bowl
Electric Mixer
Pancake Mix (I suggest Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix)
Water
Paper Towels
Vegetable Oil
Griddle
Spatula
Syrup

Mix Directions
Add the pancake mix to a large bowl. I typically fill up a large bowl half way up with mix when I make pancake art. Since the Krusteaz mix is a “just add water” mix, you don’t need to measure out the amount. Just add enough water to make a medium consistency. You can always add more water or add more mix to achieve this. You want the batter thick enough to “draw”
with but not too much where it won’t squeeze out of the squirt bottle. Use an electric mixer to get the big lumps out. Divide up your batter into 3 cups. Add the red and blue food coloring to two cups and stir until well blended.  Do not put food coloring in the 3rd cup. This will be your white color. Fill up your condiment squirt bottles with the batter. Lightly oil your griddle with
a paper towel and vegetable oil. Turn your griddle on at 200 degrees.

Start with the red pancake batter and draw a dot. Switch to the blue batter and begin the pinwheel. Follow the photos to see how to draw it.

Compare this step to the previous step because it doesn't look much different than the last step but it does have added lines in red.

Flip the pancake when it's bubbly and looses most of it's shine. Let it cook while moving on to the next step.

Now it's time to work on attaching the stick. Add some batter to the griddle.
Add the stick and quickly add more batter on top
Place the pinwheel on top and let it all cook together. Attach the M&M to the pinwheel with a little cream cheese.

Happy July 4th Everyone!

2 Corinthians 3:17

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

I'm not sure what we'll be doing for the fourth of July yet but it sometimes involves a cookout on the grill. What's your favorite way to celebrate July 4th? Tell me in the comments below!!

Blessings,
Jenni

5. a Crabby Pirate in pancake art

"Watch out for that hook!"

Whew......Ok, it's made out of pancakes so don't worry! Heehee!

I've got a Crabby pirate pancake tutorial all ready for you today complete with a hook arm-Arrrg!

Before I get into more talk about this grumpy crab, I wanted to chat a little bit about teaching and being a parent.  If you've been around on my blog for a little while, you'll notice that I do a lot of teaching but I was thinking that I should share with you that I'm not a professional teacher. You know that right??? Sure, I have in my past and continue to work and teach in children's ministries at church but honestly, I totally rely on God for help in this area of teaching! I feel very inadequate.

I'm an illustrator and years ago, that's why I started this blog, for my artwork. However, I discovered pancake art and realized how much I enjoyed "illustrating with pancakes." Then, somehow, one day I decided to use pancakes as an object lesson to teach the Bible to my kids.  I wish that I could remember what in the world I was thinking that made me decide to do that but I just don't know.

Anyhow, I'm off on a tangent, sorry.  I meant to say that, I'm not a professional teacher.  I'm just a Mom giving her best effort......I hope to encourage you that no matter where you are in your life, that you make time to teach your kids about the Lord.

Please know that I'm not perfect and that I struggle myself.  Sometimes I get lazy or sometimes life just seems too busy to schedule time in but then I remember how important it is to train them and not rely on outside sources only (church or Christian programs) to do it. Not that those aren't important. They are, but we need to be their primary teachers....even if we aren't "professional teachers" we serve an awesome God who can help us do our best! He's called us to be parents, so he will equip us.

Lord,
help us to do our Best because, well, it's not always easy to do so......help us to put training our children to know you, to love and serve you as a top priority, even when were tired, or busy and just don't feel like it. You are worthy Lord of our best effort.  Please help us to reflect that in our lives.

In Jesus name,
Amen

My Crabby pirate sketches.
Luke 6:37
forgive, and ye shall be forgiven

Forgiving others is the theme that I'm teaching my kids this month and I'm using a grumpy, silly, Crabby pirate to do it.

I think that "forgiving others" is one of those lessons that needs to be taught over and over a million-billion times because it's something that just doesn't come naturally (to kids or adults!). However, it's really, truly important to teach this because the Bible says that we won't be forgiven if we don't forgive others and since salvation comes through forgiveness, we totally need to be forgiven ourselves. Wow, this is important!

Here is the video I put together on how to make a Crabby pirate:

Let's work to give God our BEST!

Blessings,
Jenni

6. A Merry Christmas Manger Pancake

Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the
city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

I'm sharing with you today a tutorial that I began writing last Christmas, but it's been waiting all year for me to finish up...so here it is now, finished and ready for you to make!

You could cook up the pancakes on Christmas Day or ahead of time and freeze them or you could make them for a fun snack (like I typically do). Any way you choose, I hope you have fun!

Supplies
-Griddle or large skillet
-Pam Cooking Spray
-Large mixing bowl
-Electric mixer
-Four Condiment Squirt Bottles
-Yellow, Brown, Green Food Coloring
-Paper Towels
-Spatula
-Spoon for mixing
-4 clear drinking cups
-Candy (mini chocolate chips, mini M&Ms)

Recipe
2 Cups + 2-4 Tbsp Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix (the just add water mix)
1 Tbsp Sugar
1 ½ Cups Water
½ tsp Vanilla Extract

  Directions
In a large bowl, stir the pancake mix and sugar together with a spoon. Add the water and vanilla extract and stir until moistened. Take your electric mixer and beat the batter until it's well blended. If you have too many lumps, they will clog up your squirt bottle. At this point, you may need to add a little more pancake mix (one Tablespoon at a time) depending on your batter's consistency. You want the batter thick enough to “draw” with but not too much where it wont squeeze out of the squirt bottle. Divide your batter into 4 clear drinking cups. Color your batter yellow, brown, and green using your food colorings (use the graphic above to get an idea of how much batter each color will need).  The 4th cup doesn't have any color. Carefully add each cup of batter into separate squirt bottles.

Spray your griddle with cooking spray but do not turn it on yet. Take your brown batter and draw the main part of the manger.

Now draw the legs for the manger.

Switch to your green batter and draw a half circle and a shape that looks almost like a triangle to represent the baby blanket.

Grab your white batter and draw the round head and a dot for a nose.

Take your yellow batter and draw straw. It's best to draw the straw above the manger so that you can visually "measure" the width of the straw based off the size of the manger.

Now it's finally time to turn on your griddle to 200 degrees. Let the outlines cook for a minute or two and then take your brown batter and fill in the manger.

Fill in the blanket with the green batter.

Fill in straw with the yellow batter.

Finally, fill in the head with the white batter.  Now wait until the batter starts to loose it's shine and bubbles before flipping it.

Decorate your pancake with mini chocolate chips and mini M&Ms.

Merry Christmas!

7. Sandcastle Pancake Video Tutorial

This week we made Pancake Sandcastles and the castle represents God's kingdom for the above Bible verse. I've made a Video Demo for you if you'd like to make one at home also!

When my kids make Art Pancakes, I realized that it really helps if they see a pancake demo first to get a basic idea on how to make pancakes around our theme.

So I tried something new this time and had them watch the Demo Video I made first and I really think it helped my younger one with his pancake art.
Time for some Sandcastles in October....who would have thought?!

I'm keeping a photo scrapbook for my kids of all the Art Pancakes that they've made and the Bible verses that go along with them. This way they can look back and hopefully be reminded of their verses.

Blessings to you,

Jenni

8. Pumpkin Pie PancakeTutorial

I've had the honor of creating this Pumpkin Pie Pancake Tutorial for Amy's blog just in time for harvest and the Thanksgiving holiday!  Pop on over....and have some pancake fun!

See it HERE

My daughter came up with the idea for this tutorial. I had my own ideas but in the end, her sketch idea worked out much better than mine.

In other news.....we were busy last week with revival at our church and the Holy Spirit really pressed upon my heart the importance of praying for my husband. He is my covering, my spiritual leader, the head of our family and I really realized that praying for him daily is something I need to be doing.

Another thing that was so amazing was seeing my daughter down at the isle, praying and worshiping the Lord and being filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit....Wow. Incredible! I just praise Jesus for this!

Blessings,
Jenni
