1. Baby Turtles Everywhere

Look at what popped out of the ground a week ago... baby snapping turtles! I'd never seen such a thing.

For about an hour, 8 or 9 of them slowly poked their heads out of a tiny hole in the grass, completely entangled together, and made their way one by one to the pond, in back. How did they know where to go?

We'd seen the mama laying eggs at the beginning of summer in a rotted tree stump, far from where the babies hatched. If they were from the same eggs then she certainly faked us out!

2. Okay, Joke's Over. It's April!

Ha, ha Mother Nature! You sure got us here in Minnesota. It was a well-played joke and we all had a laugh as we slipped and slid on the 8 inches of snow you dumped on us. The lady with the mint green minivan was doubling over in a gale of giggles as it went off of Radio Drive into the ditch in front of the Jamba Juice.

You stinker!

This April's Fool joke was much better than the lame one Google came up with this year.

But seriously, Mama N. We all fell for it and it's time to come clean. You can go ahead and get rid of all this snow. I mean, for reals! It's Spring up in here. Says so on the calendar and everything. See? Back here on March 20th!

Uh...Mother Nature?

3. off to Access

I’m heading out of Boston this morning to go to Victoria and speak tomorrow at Access2007. From there I’ll be going to NELA in Sturbridge MA where I’ll be giving a few talks. Please say hi if you see me in the subway, airport, bus, ferry, hotel, helijet, library, or just wandering around somewhere.

4. Going to Access 2007?

Hi. I have an odd request. I’m going to be speaking at the Access 2007 conference in Victoria BC on October 11th. I’m really looking forward to it. However, travelling there involves going from Tinytown USA to Tinytown Canada which means two small airports which means two long (or expensive, or both) trips. If anyone is driving to Access and heading either through Vancouver BC or Seattle WA on their way there and wouldn’t mind giving me a ride to the conference — I speak on the morning of the 11th, pretty flexible otherwise — I’d be happy to chip in for gas, share my hotel room if it’s logistically possible, or otherwise make it a non-sucky experience for you in the interests of saving the conference promoters money and me some time. Drop a note in the comments or find me in the usual places. I’ll be buying tickets sometime this week. Thanks.

tagless!
