Nothing beats the morbid delight begot from a good old-fashioned bad dream. It’s the stuff memorable horror movies are made of. There’s no denying, being tantalised and terrified go hand in hand. But what about those bad dreams that leave you thrashing in a bed of sweat-soaked sheets and screaming for salvation? Nightmares can plague […]

From the wee folk of long ago (fairies, leprechauns, pixies…) to Hans Christian Andersen’s Thumbelina, and to Mary Norton’s The Borrowers, sentient beings of very small size have fascinated, delighted, and horrified us, but they never fail to capture our attention. I’m never going to let you forget that I’ll be co-hosting an evening (6 hours!) of Classic Animation on Turner Classic Movies on Sunday October 21st. To that end, I just started a dedicated Facebook page with daily updates and related eye-candy for this Earth-shattering animated event. And TCM has created a beautiful piece of Gulliver’s Travel’s wallpaper art, which you can use as desktop background on your various computer screens. So spread the word, buy a lot of popcorn and gather your friends – classic cartoons are returning to television, in prime time, and I wouldn’t want you to miss a minute!

Nothing says I love you more than Gabby shouting “All’s Well!” from a vintage Valentine Card from 1939. Today’s big ebay find are these nifty Paramount licensed greeting cards from Max Fleischer’s Gulliver’s Travels. Oh yeah, nothing professes true love more than a bound unconscious giant on the beach. I wish I could afford these… Click images and thumbnails below for larger view of these beautiful keepsakes of Valentines past.
