1. Random House Contacts OR Books About Fifty Shades Cover Art

Random House has asked OR Books to change the cover of Fifty Shades of Louisa May, a work that parodies the best seller 50 Shades of Greyframed as an erotic diary written by Louisa May Alcott.

Random House contacted OR Books after OR launched a “Bonnets for Bondage” promotion, offering readers a free copy of Fifty Shades of Louisa May in exchange for their copy of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group executive director of publicity Paul Bogaards explained the circumstances to GalleyCat via email. He wrote: “Counsel did contact OR books about the cover art for their book Fifty Shades of Louisa May, suggesting they revise same. They also requested that OR books refrain from using cover art from Fifty Shades of Grey in their promotional materials. The issue was not about the parody but the use of our cover art to help promote it.”

2. OR Books Teams Up with St. Mark’s Bookstore

ORBooks.pngSt. Mark’s Bookstore in New York City has partnered with publisher OR Books. Now, customers can purchase select print and digital books from the OR Books’ list through the store website.

Co-publisher John Oakes had this statement: “We look forward to expanding this program to other stores around the country and around the globe. We see no reason why Google Editions should have all the fun. This approach will benefit the store, the publisher, and any independent-minded reader with Internet access.”

Store owner Bob Contant expressed satisfaction that the store now sells books in all formats. OR Books‘ unofficial motto is, “No book printed until it’s sold.” OR Books imprint Mischief + Mayhem will be represented at our eBook Summit on December 15th. Last week we interviewed OR Books co-founder Colin Robinson, getting his thoughts on digital handselling.
