Can a fashion retailer take a photograph of a celebrity, print it on a t-shirt and sell it without the celebrity’s approval? Yes, but sometimes no – not when the retailer has previously gone out of its way to draw a connection between its products and that celebrity, in this case Robyn Fenty, aka Rihanna. How did this begin?
What are the most common myths surrounding the laws of the European Union? We asked two experts, Phil Syrpis and Catherine Seville, to describe and combat some misconceptions. From the Maastricht Treaty to intellectual property law, here are some of the topics they addressed.
“Blurred Lines” and Thicke’s overwhelming success have been eclipsed by the popularity of the recent federal court case, in which a jury decided that its creators infringed upon the copyright of Marvin Gaye’s 1977 Billboard Hot 100 chart topper, “Got to Give It Up.”
About two years after publishing photos of myself screaming on the Flickr, I discovered that my face was ‘for sale’ in several stores around the world, as well as on the Web and spotted it in places like Spain, Iran, Mexico, England and many other places. When I realized that its not a one-time-thing and my face is being used in so many places i decided to start collecting images/videos of all my ‘appearances’.
The most astonishing thing I find here is how many magazines published the image without ever trying to seek Noam out. T-shirt pirates, that doesn’t surprise me, but the magazines?

When I come across great tools, information, or resources, I try to make it a point to share it with my readers; I've got a great resource for you today.
I've been the victim of copyright infringement, and what's worse than that I've been the victim of horrible spinning programs that blog administrators use.
What happens in this case is sites, for whatever crazy reason, use your articles to attract traffic, but spin them before posting them. And, they leave your byline on the article. So, there sits a horribly spun article that doesn't even make sense and your name is attached to it.
I just can't understand why site administrators would bother spinning an article if they're leaving the author's byline attached. It makes me furious. As a professional writer, if a potential client sees these articles chances are he/she won't utilize my writing services.
Well, I'm not the only one this happens to, obviously. Two authors, Yuwanda Blackl and Ruth Barringham, who had copyright infringement problems joined forces and created a 100+ e-book explaining their course of action and much more.
