7. This stuff, I love

A lot of us pretend we don’t self-Google, but honestly, if I didn’t, I never would have found this: It makes me smile so large to see stuff like this. I appreciate the girls’ creativity–what a great job they did! And of course I appreciate that they decided to do their video book report [...]

8. For those needing their Twilight/New Moon fix

I know a lot of you can’t wait these last few days before the movie version of New Moon comes out. Yes, we all want to see Jacob’s new muscles! I know that! But until then, enjoy this: Thanks to Faith for tipping me off about it!

9. I’ll be watching it

vampirediariesAccording to Variety,

The CW is looking to take a bite out of the vampire craze, picking up a pilot based on the “Vampire Diaries” series of books.

As you probably know by now, I’m a huge fan of this series. So I’m a bit nervous, obviously, because adaptations sometimes *cough* suck. But since I can also totally picture it as a TV show, I’ll be tuning in.

10. Failed strategory

Yeah, well, I’m up here at Sundance, and I already blew it this morning. I had tickets in hand for an 8:30 AM film, but I just had to see if I could get into this great-sounding documentary instead–American Teen, which follows a group of 17-year-olds for most of a year, and reveals the [...]

11. Great movies today (except for that really awful one)

I have this Pollyanna-ish rule that I try not to badmouth books or movies or people on the blog (although maybe I’ve violated that sometimes–and I’m sure you’ll be happy to point it out if I have). That said, I’m only going to tell you about the films I love up here at Sundance, [...]

12. The Frenchman who walked between the twin towers (and then made mad passionate love)

Tonight we saw the coolest caper film, and it was actually a documentary. It’s called Man on Wire, and it’s about Phillipe Petit, this guy who pulled off the most outlandish stunt imaginable, walking on a tightrope suspended between the two World Trade Center buildings back in 1974. The guy not only survived, [...]

13. A couple of total wow movies

Today was a very good day in my particular Sundance world, with two truly excellent films I hope you’ll all keep an eye out for. (Yes, I end sentences with prepositions. All the time. It’s what I’m made of.) The first is Sunshine Cleaning, starring Amy Adams (yay, Enchanted!) and Emily Blunt yay, [...]

14. Acting and writing

Memo to self: Remember to tell everyone about that long conversation you had yesterday with that ridiculously handsome and modest actor on the shuttle about the comparisons between acting and writing, and how we’re all responsible for our own careers, and how we both know people in our own professions who seem to think [...]

15. And now for something completely different

For those of you who don’t care even a little bit about what’s going on at Sundance–and even for those of you who do–here’s a little something to entertain you. And this really immature thing that made me laugh very hard. Technorati Tags: YouTube Prevents Sleep

16. Here’s the stuff I don’t normally tell you about

Some random tidbits from this week at Sundance: –People do not observe proper sneezing and coughing etiquette (FYI: we always sneeze or cough into our sleeve, not our open hand, so we don’t spread the joy onto every single thing we touch), and so you can feel the disease spread throughout the jam-packed theaters and [...]

18. A public apology to my mother

It’s possible that at the end of watching Lost just now, when it was during the previews for next week, the phone rang. And it’s possible that I shouted into the phone, “Hold on! Previews!” And that the voice on the other end would not hold on, but insisted on saying, “I [...]

20. Awe-freakin-some

‘Bout TIME our man Sayid is back on his game! After all those weeks of moping and being all dewy-eyed over Shannon–get over it! You’re a killer! Be true to your school! Very happy with tonight’s episode. So much to take in and digest. But mainly happy to see Sayid being used properly [...]

23. Well, that hurt my brain

Finally some quantum physics and time travel and some teary “I love you”s and everything we could want from a show that all the way through makes us go, “Huh?? I’m so confused!” I’m surprised we all didn’t have blood streaming from our noses, poor little overloaded brains. Love it. Great episode tonight. [...]

24. Jack, what??
