These days almost everyone’s first destination for reading is the web, but there is a boundless amount of content competing for eyeballs. Whether you’re trying to entertain, make a point, or just update the world on your life, capturing the attention of readers can be a challenge. With a focus on the short essay form, this class will help you develop skills to create concise, informative and compelling writing to send out into the digital world. Duties: The Assistant Editor, Production and Layout, Quiddity will assist with the management and production of Quiddity’s international and Public-Radio Program, including Web management, upholding quality, calendar, and budgetary expectations. Other duties are but not limited to performing the layout for the journal’s interior print pages and its electronic format(s). Coordinate editing and production schedules for the print journal and website, provide editorial design direction throughout the print production processes and assist with editing the journal. Coordinate contact with the production vendors and partners, including presses and distribution venues. Assist with Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) and Council of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) liaison duties, including listserv correspondence, CWROPPS postings, NewPages, PW.org, Writer’s Digest, and Literary Marketplace. Attend recruitment events with Admissions regarding Quiddity interns as well as communication Arts and Writing & Publishing majors. Coordinate and maintain electronic and traditional hard copy submission systems; Manage online submissions, including assignments, follow-up, and contributor notifications; Manage the receipt and editing of audio acquisitions from the journal; Produce segments for audio broadcast; Maintain existing Web pages and post Web copy and audio/video files; Assist with development of audio journal; Maintain mailing lists and assist with the mailings, subscription sales, contributor copies, distribution, and the management of renewals, reminders, and follow-up courtesies; Serve as site supervisor for production student interns enrolled in Quiddity’s internship program; Other editorial and management duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: BA, MA, MFA or MSc in Creative Writing, English, Communications, or related field.
Experience: At least one year of experience with a print publication or journal of national distribution.
Supervisory Responsibility: Supervise undergraduate student interns enrolled in Quiddity’s internship program.
Working Conditions: Thirty (30) hours per week performed in-office, on-campus, and scheduled during regular business hours to correspond with schedules of student interns, supervisor, and fellow editorial board (faculty/staff) members. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Salary Range: $20,000- $23,400

Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowships
Five Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowships in the amount of $25,800 each (previously $15,000), will be awarded to young poets through a national competition sponsored by the Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine. Established in 1989 by the Indianapolis philanthropist Ruth Lilly, the fellowships are intended to encourage the further study and writing of poetry.
Submissions will be accepted from March 1 – April 30 of this year, via the online submissions system.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and no older than 31 years of age as of April 30, 2014.

About the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship Program
Established in 1989 by Ruth Lilly to encourage the further writing and study of poetry, the Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowship program has dramatically expanded since its inception. Until 1995, university writing programs nationwide each nominated one student poet for a single fellowship; from 1996 until 2007, two fellowships were awarded. In 2008 the competition was opened to all U.S. poets between 21 and 31 years of age, and the number of fellowships increased to five, totaling $75,000. In 2014, the Poetry Foundation received a generous gift from the Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Memorial Fund to create the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowships, which increased the fellowship amount from $15,000 to $25,800.

Write At The Farm April 13 – 15, 2014
The Writers' House at Century Farm, a creative retreat in Washington's Skagit Valley is the perfect place to create--a unique farmhouse that has been in the Skagit Valley since the dawn of the 20th century. Four scholarships are being offered for first-time participants of the 21st Annual WINTER POETRY & PROSE GETAWAY, January 17-20, 2014 in the Atlantic City area. Recipients may choose from workshops in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, memoir and more, including special advanced sections with Stephen Dunn and Tony Hoagland. Writer-in-Residence
In partnership with The Paris Review, the Standard, East Village is pleased to announce its first Writer-in-Residence.
For the first three weeks in January 2014, the Standard, East Village will provide a room free of charge to a writer who has a book under contract and needs three weeks of solitude in downtown New York City. Applications will be judged by the editors of The Paris Review and Standard Culture. All applications should be submitted electronically to:

Each application should include:
1) A description and sample of the work-in-progress, not exceeding fifty pages total.
2) A letter from the publisher confirming that the work is under contract.
3) A brief letter from the writer explaining how this residency would benefit his or her work-in-progress.
Writers may also submit samples of previous work. This is optional. Samples should not exceed fifty pages total.
The deadline for the application is November 1, 2013.
The residency is open to writers of prose or poetry, fiction or nonfiction. Continental breakfast (and unlimited coffee) will be provided daily free of charge; all additional incidental charges (room service, etc.) will be incurred by the guest. All rooms are nonsmoking. The Standard, East Village and The Paris Review will be pleased to hold a small reception in the writer’s honor at the conclusion of the stay. Prime Number Magazine seeks smart, well-written book reviews that explore the author’s craft and examine where the work fits within current literary trends. We are not seeking reviews that accentuate the negative. Prime Number Magazine’s on-line quarterly seeks four 400-800 word reviews and one author interview of800-1,200 words per issue. Our print annual seeks one to two review essays,between 2,000 and 3,000 words, which critically examine two or more authors.Our review essays are peer-reviewed, so please send us only your best critical works. Our print annual may also include a longer author interview with a notable writer. Though our print interviews are often conducted by our Prime Number Magazine staff, if reviewers have an interview idea, please pitch us the idea.

Weave Magazine is a bicoastal literary organization and print publication committed to showcasing a diverse collection of established and emerging voices.
