2. Art of the Ice Age [slideshow]

In 2003 Paul Bahn led the team that discovered the first Ice Age cave art at Creswell Crags in Britain. In recent years, many more discoveries have been made including the expanding phenomenon of 'open-air Ice Age art'. In the slideshow below, you can see some of the earliest examples of art on the planet, and take a tour of prehistoric art throughout the world.

4. Horse Blue

This is a redo of a sketch I did quite some time ago. I loved the sketch: The piece was created entirely in PhotoShop using a Wacom Intuos Tablet.

5. A history of firsts [slideshow]

We live in a globalized world, but mobility is nothing new. Set on a huge continental stage, By Steppe, Desert and Ocean tells the story how human society evolved across the Eurasian continent from Europe to China.

8. "Tiny Dancer" by Linda T Snider Ward, Louisiana artist

Tiny Dancer is an ACEO or "Artist, Cards, Editions, Originals" and the only rule for them is that they're 2.5" x 3.5". ACEO's can be any medium but just need to be that size. There are lots of ACEO sites. More of my artwork can be seen on my website and my Etsy shop

If you're a watercolorist or just someone who likes dappling in watercolor, and you would like to join this site and share your work, send me a link to your blog or website in a comment, and I'll add you to the site.

9. "Horse Love" by Linda T Snider-Ward, Louisiana artist

Horse Love is painted from my reference photos after attending a horse show nearby. This sweet little girl seemed to have such a connection with her horse. The painting turned out a bit too sweet, but I enjoyed painting it. More of my artwork can be seen on my website and my Etsy shop

12. back in the old folky days

Happy New Year folks!
As I said in a previous post, I've been making some changes to my business (and life) recently. Some leaps of faith. Which all ties in nicely with the New Year and new leaf/chapter/beginning.
Here's something I've never tried before; bespoke, made to order original drawings. Not just bespoke drawings, but, bespoke pet portraits (and that's something I never thought I'd hear myself saying). They are, of course, pet portraits with a difference. They are kind of like drawings of your pet's ancestors. With a little imagined (by me) biography of said pet ancestor.

Where and how the hell do I come up with these ideas?
Anyway, you can get a bespoke, Victorian, made to order, portrait of YOUR pet HERE!
No, really.

13. #Inktober Day 9 : Unicorn #inktober2014

Inktober 9

A majestic unicorn for today. Created with graphite pencil on Strathmore drawing paper and inked with Micron Pigma Brush Pen in black.

I have been really enjoying the inktober event. Not only seeing everyone else’s contributions, but also for my own creativity. I am not one to usually like to ink, but lately I have found it quite zen. I remember telling my fellow comrades on #Zero2Illo that I really hated inking. When asked to clarify why, I found that I really could not answer except that I just wasn’t experienced enough with it. Now that I have been dabbling ever since, I find inking more and more relaxing than frustrating. Thanks to Inktober, I am able to improve my skills even more.

Thank you  for stopping by!

19. throwin' it back to the '80s...

"the rainbow connection"
©the enchanted easel 2014
paying homage to my favorite doll from childhood...the cheerfully colorful and cute Rainbow Brite...and her BFF, Starlite.

this doll was everything to me as a little girl and i am so NOT a doll person (ironic, considering how girly i am...). stuffed animals were always my *thing*. elephants, to be exact. still love them...lots!

anyhoo...i wanted to do a little tribute to sweet Rainbow Brite and Starlite (loved that stuffed horse too). so here she is.....and i'm so loving working with all the colors of the spectrum here. oh, and it's the year of the horse too. perfect.

another irony, did not like the '80s. at all. especially the music. but i loved this doll...:)

21. SkADaMo 2013 Day 10 (late)

high horse 450

Whoops, missed a day! I guess I’m was just a little low “energy”. So don’t get all up on your “High Horse” about it!

Get it? High horse… I was late… and you’re…

It’s funny, trust me.

Cornball jokes aside, why not cruise on by here and check my fellow SkADaMoers!

Just wanted to mention that I seem to be keeping up with PiBoIdMo, a picturebook idea a day so far! Nothing earth-shattering yet, but some fun ideas to riff off of and those daily post on Tara’s blog, “Writing for Kids (While Raising Them) are so inspiring and fun to read!

Also, I tried to slip in a reason to post to Illustration Friday this week, where the word of the week is “energy.”
