We do a lot of talking about asteroids in our house... Having an almost eight year old who is extremely scientifically minded helps quite a bit. One night my daughter, two, and I had a conversation about dinosaurs. It went something like this:
"Mommy, where did all the dinosaurs go?"
"Well, some say it was a giant asteroid crashing into earth, others think it was a giant volcano...etc.. then.."
Quiet for a minute...
"Mommy,"
"Yes?"
"I think it was aliens. They landed in the ocean and caused these volcanoes. Then the dinosaurs went away. I think they went to the beach though, or maybe the forest."
The next day, at dinner, she insists she cannot sit still, because SHE is an asteroid.
Did you know that asteroids do not eat asparagus?
(And of course, I am now creating something out of this!)
IT's Finished! I started tonight, along with some cold medicine and tea... (truth be told I had forgotten completely about this over the holidays - like many things I will realize tomorrow) and just felt like doing a viking. I hope it works in the app, and I can't wait to see what everyone else has put in!!
Happy New Year.
What would happen if you took dinosaurs skating on your local pond?

Well, it just so happens I have illustrated a Dinosaur Book for Red Robin Books,
Don't Invite Dinosaurs to Dinner, written by Neil Griffiths. It came out in Jan 2012.
Illos for a book released this Jan, called -
Don't Invite Dinosaurs to Dinner, written by Neil Griffiths, published by
Red Robin Books.
More art for new Dino Book... Red Robin Books - coming this fall.
I scan in the drawing, and then lighten it up and give it a tint in photoshop. I then print it out on watercolour paper, first to work out the colours, and then to paint. For some reason I cannot retain the info needed to set up the printer the correct way to print out right the FIRST time, so I end up with duplicates, which is VERY handy when you have a 5-year old who wants to paint too!
I layer on the paint - using Gouache, and then use ink to finish it. Here is the final art!
This is an elephant from a book I illustrated - Tallula's Atishoo and the other is from a FRASER papers promotion - the Pegasus Zoo.
Love your Viking Daddy, Peggy. Every time I see somebody's image for the flip book, I think, "why didn't I think of that?" Looking forward to the final product.
Thanks Cathy, me too - should be lots of fun!
