ANNOUNCEMENTS

We're looking for more intrepid blog readers!
Sadly, the blog reading is getting to be a little much for us, and Clara and I are getting worried that we are missing too many of the newer blogs that deserve recognition, and even some of the wonderful posts from blogs we have followed for years. This isn't for lack of will. There simply aren't enough hours in the day. SOOOOO. We would like to invite one or two friends, old or new, to help us out by spotting and reading blog posts and articles and suggesting them for our weekly round-up. If you're interested, please e-mail Martina.

The winner of last week's MY BEATING TEENAGE HEART is Christy Lenzi!

This week's giveaway is: BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's wonderful third book in the BEAUTIFUL CREATURES Caster Chronicles series. Wow. These just keep getting better, and the southern gothic setting is pure deliciousness.

Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's Claiming. Even Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals is affected - and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What - or who - will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?
For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He's being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn't by Lena - and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself - forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn't know why, and most days he's too afraid to ask.
Sometimes there isn't just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there's no going back. And this time there won't be a happy ending.

Are you ready? Enter by 12/15 to win. Fill out the form at the bottom of the page!

18. This Week for Writers 12/2/11: Our Favorite Articles and Blog Posts

Happy Friday, everyone!

Quick housekeeping items, the winner of last week's THE CANDIDATES by Inara Scott is Samantha Bousquet. This week's giveaway is:

My Beating Teenage Heart by C.K. Kelly Martin

Ashlyn Baptiste is falling. One moment she was nothing—no memories, no self—and then suddenly, she's plummeting through a sea of stars. Is she in a coma? She doesn't remember dying, and she has no memories of the life she left behind. All she knows is that she's trapped in a consciousness without a body and she's spending every moment watching a stranger.

Breckon Cody's on the edge. He's being ripped apart by grief so intense it literally hurts to breathe. On the surface, Breckon is trying to hold it together for his family and his girlfriend, but underneath he's barely hanging on.

Even though she didn't know him in life, Ashlyn sees Breckon's pain, and she's determined to find a way help him. As her own distressing memories emerge from the darkness, she struggles to communicate with the boy who can't see her, but whose life is suddenly intertwined with hers. In alternating voices of the main characters, My Beating Teenage Heart paints a devastatingly vivid picture of both the heartbreak and the promise of teenage life—a life Ashlyn would do anything to recover and Breckon seems desperate to destroy—and will appeal to fans of Sarah Dessen, John Green, and David Levithan.

Okay, the format is far from perfect, but here's the week's roundup in accessible format. You can still get the instant feed on Google+. Find us using email addy kidlit (at) writeedge dot com. I'm still wrestling with a solution to the Google Reader issue, so please bear with me. The format will get better in the next few weeks. And I will post contest information later this morning.

Happy Friday!
