I want to know your opinion for my next project. I'm designing and submitting a proposal for a new coloring book, but I can't decide which theme to go with. This would be for adults, and I know I want to include all things with wings, but how??
Halos I adore all things pattern, and placing the circles behind a lovely lady are representative of her personality and purpose. The halo is the radiating circles behind her. When I first heard this concept of patterned halos it was through a Mucha exhibit, where he himself called them halos. It forever changed how I saw them and the stories they tell.
Enchanted Gardens A narrative starting with the garden gate, entering into a world full of florals, landscapes, fairies, angels, and the songs of nature around them. A story unfolds as you wander through the pages, helping to create the mood through your choice of colors.
Will you help me? Vote!
My Pixie Fairy Coloring Book has be so much fun to share and create, I want to do more, with more pattern and detail. Something I truly love doing.
What's your favorite subject to color?

I haven't forgotten about my blog or my newsletter, or Facebook for that matter, but working out new schedules, system for what I offer where, and how to find "me" time in it all. Because let's face it, when you can't take care of yourself, what you give out is no where near what you hoped it would be.
Wings are getting a bit clipped over on my end, but all for the better. Thank you for all of your patience and support. :)

End of the week, and believe it or not, this is when things get real busy. Our weekends are usually socially full with friends, family, and yard work. So on Friday I try to get one more big push to paint or draw.
Everything else typically gets pushed to Monday. Because of our weekend schedules working on Saturday or Sunday nights becomes quite difficult, so it becomes easier to just not work and give my loved ones my attention.
It was mentioned on Twitter that I create a fairy delivering coffee. I couldn't let it go, being a big coffee person myself, and on a weekly basis wish there was a coffee delivery service here in Des Moines. At that, I just got started and let other projects go to the side. When you feel it, you must go with it. That's how you know it's from the heart. :)
It wasn't raining either, so Norah and I did some errands to Hobby Lobby, Target, then some weeding out back to get some vitamin D. Loved watching her play in the dirt (helping mom weed) and pick dandelions.
I worked on the coffee fairy during her morning nap (2.5 hours) and in the evening (2 hrs). Brian and I finished the night off with an episode of Dr. Who. ^_^
Have a great weekend!

It started here. I made five fairy busts for my book demonstrating the different ways to approach painting skin tones.
It then moved onto this without me realizing it, I began doodling them with this crazy spiral hair during Inktober.
At the end of October I listed the five busts from my book to be sold during my first Flash Sale at my Etsy shop. They went so fast! I didn't think something so small and so simple would be that popular.
Once the sale was all finished and I had so many envelopes to draw on, I decided to continue with these wee fairy busts as a way to "brand" the sale. I came up with a simple design and modified it for each envelope. Every envelope from a sale during that day has a fairy bust drawn on it. You can view all of them on my Facebook Page.
Now, with all of that said and done, here is where I have ended up.
I think I am border line obsessed with these wee ladies. They are quick, full of sweet personality, and I really can't wait to paint them. I envision them in tiny ornate frames hanging together or in the smallest of nooks and crannies around the house. Just like a fairy! They measure about 2x2 inches.
I love them so much I made myself into one!

I picked theme cards for the week from my Healing Fairy Alphabet deck. (Pretty surreal experience picking cards from your own deck). O is for Outside In. This is the card that indicates poor or good boundaries. It’s a reminder to help yourself feel safe by stating good boundaries and recognizing where you need them.
The C is for Cocoon card is all about rest or things/ideas/plans percolating in the cocoon before they are brought out into the world. It may even be a time where you feel nothing is happening in the outside world in regards to your plans, but much is going on underneath the surface.
The two cards together may indicate a battle between rest and boundaries. Look at the cards through your own intuition and life. The meaning and message will pop out at you.
Have fun this week. Looks like it will be an interesting one!
Fairy blessings,
ps. Preorders: Your decks are being shipped out today! Decks are now available for purchase on this site here.

What if I told you is healthy and wise to do this from time to time?
I believe it is. As an instructor I always look for ways to push my students ever so slightly out of their comfort zone (or sometimes, way out of their comfort zone...but more on that a different time).
Doodling straight onto the watercolor, around or on an already exisiting piece, demands several thoughts at once. You thinking about composition, you make your marks with more meaning and intent, but at the same time you're doodling!
What is doodling?
doo·dle
verb (used with object), verb (used without object), doo·dled, doo·dling.1.to draw or scribble idly: He doodled during the whole lecture.2.to waste (time) in aimless or foolish activity.3.Dialect . to deceive; cheat.noun4.a design, figure, or the like, made by idle scribbling.5.Archaic. a foolish or silly person.
So let's focus on the art part. In all seriousness, it's to not think, yet to just do idly. When you doodle on a piece that you've already invested in you're using both your right brain and your left. A great exercise!
I encourage you to find a piece, one that MATTERS to you, one you've INVESTED in, and do some doodling upon it. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece, just something you ENJOY.
Look up Zentangles if you haven't before, they're great inspiration. ;)
What does it do for the art?
It's great for the mind and practice, but what does it really do for the art? How is this a tip for drawing?
Doodles are loose, highly creative, and usually detailed. They can add a great layer of interest and some of the best ideas, ones that can compliment your subject, will come through. It will keep the viewer's eyes moving and interested. I find some of my best backgrounds come when I don't plan them.
I'm interested in seeing what you've done. Please post in the comments below and share your work!

This year I am creating original sketches on all of my orders going out through Etsy. If even just an ACEO (2.5x3.5 inch print) is purchased, the customer will receive an original sketch on the envelope.
With a new baby I don't get a lot of time to just sketch, this has been a great way to get some sketching in while at the same time treating my customers with something special.
My customers mean a lot to me and this is one way I can show them.
These sketches are not scanned in and saved, or reproduced. They are sketched, photographed for my own documentation, and then mailed off. Who knows, maybe one of them will become a painting some day. Now wouldn't that be fun! :)

Franken Fairy with Bat Wings, Gothic Fantasy Art Print is ready to be framed and hung on a wall. The Franken Fairy is all stitched up from parts of other fairies. It’s a little morbid but cute. Frankenstein didn’t just create scary monsters. He also created cute fairies with bat wings. She is wearing a skull bow and a pink dress with heals while sitting on a mushroom.
This Print is 8 1/2″ x 11″ with a white 1″ inch border around the image for easy framing. Printed on high quality archival Epson ink jet paper. It comes unframed. Beautiful vibrant colors. Looks even better in person than on screen. Convo me for larger sizes. Print is signed by the artist.
It comes in a clear plastic bag and a stiff unbendable envelope.

Fairy Redhead Girl and Husky Puppy is a cute painting of a little redheaded fairy and her adorable canine companion. Every dreamy-eyed girl needs a lovable pup. She is wearing a green dress and she has curly red hair. She has her hand around a little husky dog. I have to of my favorite things in this painting: Huskies and fairies.
