16. Horvath and Turner join Superfan Promotions

Over the years I have been asked any a time, "is there a good indie publicist for comics?" and I always racked my brain. There have been a few good people, but they usually get hired by companies. Indie PR is a tough business and comics are a niche. But now, Superfan Promotions has become to go-to company. It's run by David Hyde, formerly of DC, and it's the best in the biz. And they are so good, they are pending, hiring Pamela Horvath (above left) Ilana Turner as director of publicity and publicity coordinator respectively.

22. More people hired at comic book companies: Image, Boom, Valiant, Dynamite

Although the comics industry seems to be hitting a rough patch, one thing that I noticed at last week retailer summit is that a bunch of people have just been hired as staffers to actually work in the comics business! And interestingly, many of them are working directly with comics retailers. I think if you're going to invest money in your business at a time like this, investing in new employees who work directly with the people who buy your products is a pretty smart move. Here's the new faces:

Former Vice President, Publishing Planning & Collected Editions at DC Entertainment Jeff Boison has just been hired by Image Comics and will join them Monday, October 5 as Director of Publishing Planning & Book Trade Sales. Bison worked at DC since 2009 and was at Rondom House for 11 years prior to that.
