As bad as pickle juice on a cookie.
As bad as a spider web on your leg.
As bad as the black parts on a banana.
I hope your August was better.
I really do.
Written in a lyrical style with thoughtful and charming illustrations throughout by Matthew Cordell.
Here are a few of Matthew Cordell's first round sketches.
It worked for the story but was just to "quiet."
A list of new possible title was drawn up.

"Recently, a friend of mine asked me to give my two cents on how I compose a page for book illustration. I don't really consider myself an expert on art, design or composition but I figured I'd share my philosophies on the matter for those who may feel they can be a helpful start in illustrating for picture books.
First of all, I should discuss my influences. I learned everything by imitation. I think, for anyone who has started in art you begin by copying those things that interest you and you improve by repetition. For me, I grew up drawing Garfield and VINCENT from the old Disney movie "The Black Hole" (Don't ask) When it came to children's books my infatuation was with the work of William Joyce..."DAN SANTAT

Where for some reason a neighbor asked if I want to judge the block Dog Show.
I could have said, "NO", but who turns down and offer like that? The categories were
1. Best dressed 2. Cutest 3. Most Unique. What kind of category is Most Unique anyway?

I was just interviewed by the blog 100 Scope Notes. Travis Jonker my interviewer is an elementary school librarian since 2005, started 100 Scope Notes in the golden days of 2007.
In addition to posting children’s literature reviews here, Travis also periodically straightens his tie and reviews for School Library Journal, and has been a judge for the Cybils Awards.
He lives in Michigan.
Hope you enjoy the interview it was a lot of fun to do.
General Domo book shoot supervision (ten square feet of 4inch deep snow!), tried a new recipe, watched The Limits Of Control.

look like a fancy weekend chad!
Not sure it was fancy, but definitely eventful. I met so many cool new people. Fancy people!
I meant to go to the Nerds affair at Powerhouse, but my day happened and I didn't make it. Was it busy?
Your weekend sounds much more interesting than mine, which was filled with lots of training for my half marathon, cooking, the Dirty Projectors show at Terminal 5 and napping whilst listening to the rain!
I wish I could visit the show... Hope you had a great time there!
Fun-filled weekend! I LOVE those birds, Chad!
Thanks Lauren. When I am not sure what to draw for some reason I draw birds.
