28. I made Shutters for My House and Shed

I wanted shutters for our house since we moved in.  I studied all the shutters in our neighborhood and found that size didn't matter.  They were strictly for decorative purposes, which made me happy and my project of making my own easier.

So I bought wood wood and screws, used the chop saw and put them together.  It took me about 5 days to make the four shutters in the front our our house and the small shutters for our shed.  It took me that long because I painted all the wood surfaces before I put them together.  It was so hot for one of the days I couldn't work as long as I wanted to.

But they are finished. I also painted all the house trim a lighter color and now I think our house really pops.

35. Life Update

Just want everyone to know why I haven't been posting much lately.

As you all know we have a new home.  We just moved in 9 days ago! So lots of unpacking.  I already had my family room drapes sewn when we moved in.  Hope to post pictures soon.

Last Monday my Mom called me to say that she was calling 911 because my Dad was so weak he couldn't walk.  My Dad has congestive heart failure. Just typing those words makes me feel sad.  I love my Dad with all my heart.  He is such a terrific man.

He is still in the hospital and there have been many ups and downs with his health.  We have been there quit a bit so that has taken up a lot of my free time.  Not complaining. . .just explaining.

He is pretty weak and day after tomorrow he will be moved to a home where he will get some physical therapy.  The likely hood of him going home are pretty slim, but God does perform miracles.

Anyway just wanted to give you a bit of an update.  I hope life will get back to a slower pace soon so I can post more often.

Hugs to all!

36. We Got a HOUSE!!!

We are so blessed! I can't even tell you how excited I am that we will be moving into our new home in the next few weeks!

We put a bid on a house early January and ended up being the back up offer.  Yesterday our Realtor called and said that the first buyers backed out and we can have the house if we want it!!!!!

Yay! We are just so excited.  We have been fortunate enough to be staying in my friends guest house.  It is 750 sq feet and really quit nice.  It doesn't have a dishwasher or stove.  I bought a two burner hot plate and brought in my frying pan so we have been doing pretty well. I am truly grateful for the generosity of my friend and her husband.  They are just wonderful generous people. It has been so wonderful to live next to my best female friend.

That said! I am so excited to get back a dishwasher, stove and tv.  We have tv here, but we don't get many channels and don't have all the networks.  I am not a tv aholic or anything, but I have missed HGTV and some of my favorite shows!

Here are some photos of our new house.  Not all of it. . .but some.  It has a garden area already built in!!!! The owners before us took such great care of this home! We hope to retire right here!

37. Not Art But Fun!

I got my birthday present early and just thought I'd share what I got, because I just love it.  I got a Malibu Pilates chair.  When I first got it, I tried one of the dvd's that came with it and didn't like the dvd at all.  The I tried another one and loved it.  If you decided to buy one be sure and ask for free shipping.  I did and they actually said yes! It's made very sturdy and I feel like I am going to get some really great results. Okay. . .over and out!

38. Update. . .

Hi everyone! I am sorry I have been lax in posting here again. . .life has been very full and I have had so much to do haven't had time to pause and focus enough to post.

After selling our home, my husband and I moved into a hotel so that we would have time to find a home of our dreams.  The internet connection there was horrible and impossible.  It could take 10 minutes to load a web page and that was maybe it would load.

Our dog Billy is staying with my parents and our cat Margie is with us.

Originally when we moved to the hotel we had our cat Lucy, who was my favorite cat. Sadly we lost our Lucy about a week ago.  She lost the use of her back legs.  I cried when I saw her dragging her legs behind her. Loved that kitty so much.  She was 16 1/2 years old and very precious. My Mom is not a cat person at all. . .but she loved my Lucy kitty and cried when she died.

It took me about two hours at the vet to get the courage to put her to sleep. . .I cried several times.  I miss her. . .In this illustration Lucy was my inspiration. . .

We moved from our hotel into my friend Noels guest house.  It's really terrific to have such a wonderful generous friend and place to stay like her guest house.  It is 750 sq feet and a very homey place.  No dishwasher or stove, but I bought a double burner hot plate and have an electric skillet, so I can prepare almost anything. . .and washing dishes isn't a problem as we are just go grateful to have a place to stay!  And what is better than living next to your best friend!

We even had our kids over last night for pizza and games last night. So wonderful to have a place that we can gather as a family again!

We have an offer in on a home. . .but we are the back up offer.  So we are not in contract.  For those unfamiliar with back up offers it means that someone else is actually in contract to buy the house and that if they change their minds or don't qualify for the loan then we will move up into place as the buyer!!

We are praying that God will keep his hands on us and know that if it's his will perhaps the people will re-consider and pull out and we will be able to be in contract.  We are not anxious over this as we know that God is in control and if this isn't the house there is another one out there that he has picked for us.

I am hoping to be able to share art good news in a few weeks. . .and hoping to start back at drawing again. . .I have my computer station, my scanner and my husband brought his lazer printer so I can now print. I don't have my normal printer as the movers took it by mistake and it is somewhere in our HUGE storage unit.

39. Spring Mailer

Jim Harris joined a picture book group I belong to.  I have loved his work for years and probably own all of his books.  After he joined he sent me a private email to thank me for my warm welcome to the group and went on to say out of all my work he really love my mice characters from my Sort it Out Book.  I was so thrilled that he would say that.

I started thinking heavily about that and realized that I had never done a mailer with those characters. . .so I ordered some postcards (below) and I will be mailing them out as soon as they arrive.

I should also say that out of all my books, Sort it Out has done the best for sales!

43. Moving!

We have had our home on the market to sell since October 21st.  We got an offer a little over a week ago.  Actually we got two offers. . .We accepted the first offer, keeping the second as a back up. We are now on a whole new adventure and ready to take on the world.

So we are busy packing and preparing to move into an extended stay hotel until we can find a new house to make our home. Not sure how long we will be in the hotel, but I will have internet access and will also have my computer set up there so I can work. We are storing our things in a huge storage unit, our dog will be staying with my parents and our kitty's/cats will be in the hotel with us.

I also have some other good news, but can't share that until the contract is signed.

We are very excited about the prospect of a new home and well. . .the other news.

This is an illustration I did this last fall.  Hopefully I will be able to share more new pieces soon.

Our home showed so often it made it hard to get any work done.  It showed over forty times while it was on the market.

Beyond kids illustration I did do some work for my old employer in the San Fransisco Bay area, which was fun and brought in some great money which was totally needed.  It was truly a blessing.

Off to have breakfast with friends, then church and then more packing.  I am going to try to keep you all informed on my progress and tell you the good news soon!

46. Creativity-Portal

I just found a wonderful resource not only for artist but for writers as well.  Here is a snippet from one of the articles. . .click the link to read the rest.

I have heard it said, also, that we artists make art in order to find love and to be loved. I think the apex of this is that in the tender connections we make to the universe, we find some degree of self-love. I think this is a balanced form of self-love that perceives the relative and tenuous nature of things, including the subjective nature of our own lives. Therefore, in my opinion, it is a mature self-love, not to be confused with narcissism.

48. Taking a Breather

I am taking a breather.  I have not been posting as much as I should and feeling a bit neglectful about that.  But my life is very hectic right now.  Aging, ill parents, kids, a husband who lost his job and starting his own business and my own career.  So much going on that I need to pull back spending time in many places that just aren't mandatory and sorry to say this is one of them. I love all my faithful friends here and I thank you all for being there for me.  I just might show back up here one day. . .but for now I need to pull back and devote time to only necessities. If any of you feel like it drop me a line by email. . .

I have also had a weird experience because of my exposure on the net too and I am feeling a bit over exposed . .so feel a need to cacoon for a while.
