Write Your World, blog by Kathy ( Kathryn ) Erskine
1. Ya’at’eeh from Calvin College

Yup, the Navajo (Dineh) greeting is on the welcome banner at Calvin College.  I love that.  And it is, indeed, a welcoming place.  It hosts a beautifully run Festival of Faith and Writing.  I’m honored to have been invited and wish I could’ve stayed longer to hear more speakers.  Here are some of the talented people I  got to hear (I’m using their books as identifiers):

Okay for NowIrisesFlunking Sainthood: A Year of Breaking the Sabbath, Forgetting to Pray, and Still Loving My NeighborThe Sabbath World: Glimpses of a Different Order of TimeHabibiSee Me Naked: Stories of Sexual Exile in American ChristianityAmy InspiredLovely, RaspberryStraw House, Wood House, Brick House, Blow: Four Novellas by Daniel Nayeri

And authors / illustrators I met (yay!) but didn’t get a chance to hear (bummer!):

Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His OrchestraMe, FridaAs Good as Anybody

And I can’t wait for this winning combination — Gary Schmidt and David Diaz!

Martin de Porres: The Rose in the Desert

Thank you, Calvin College, for a fantastic festival.  A warm, inspiring spirit ran through it.  This is the nature preserve right next to the conference center–what could be better?
