It was recognized as a Newbery Honor Book, one of the 2010 Newbery Winners. This book of historical fiction is set in Texas in 1899. The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate features Calpurnia Tate, an "almost twelve-year-old" girl who is trying to find her place in a world that expects females to play a certain role.
