This is my blog on being in and working for an MFA program, my life as a writer and reader, and other fun stuff like Buddhism, bears, the Red Sox, and chocolate.
1. Well, This Might Change Your Self-Concept a Little...

Apparently astronomers have just figured out that we've been calculating the zodiac incorrectly for the past, oh, couple of thousand years. The ancient Babylonians are the ones who invented it, and the actual dates for each sign according to them are as follows (including one you've never heard of):

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces: March 11-April 18.
Aries: April 18-May 13.
Taurus: May 13-June 21.
Gemini: June 21-July 20.
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus:* Nov. 29-Dec. 17. (I guess the Babylonians wanted 12 signs after all so they got rid of this one. I have no idea what the personality profile is for this one. If you were born between these dates and feel perennially confused and like you don't fit in, that may be why.)
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

The good news is, I'm still a Virgo. The even better news is that even more of my friends are apparently Virgos than I thought. In fact, almost all of my friends now fall into Earth signs. Hm. And here I thought I was an open-minded person, accepting of others. Oh wait, I'm a Virgo.

Sorry if this engenders any personality crises. I'm just the messenger here. I wonder if astrologers are going to start using this system, or just keep the old one?
