26. Listening to Rupert Grint

Looking for an audio book for your last road trip of the summer?  Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) narrates the audio books editions of British author Liz Pichon’s series of Tom Gates books.

In the first book, The Brilliant World of Tom Gates, fifth-grader Tom tells a comic tale of teacher-misunderstandings, a tormented teenage sister, concert tickets, and rock bands through a diary-style narrative.

Grint’s friendly voice and child-like persona fit the story perfectly, and listening brings scenes from the early Harry Potter films to mind, when Grint himself was about the same age as Tom Gates.  (Ever wonder what Tom would think of bogie-flavored beans?)

Grint brings not only the voice of Tom Gates to life, but also Gates’ imitations of the people he knows.  Grint differentiates between them all and gives each character a personality.  Had the audio effects been less obtrusive, Grint’s performance would have shone even more, but all of the loud sounds and noises are probably just what a fifth-grade boy would want in his audio diary.

Listen here for a sample of the audio book available from Bolinda Publishing, and thank you, Ice Cream Man, for the information.

The film was written by Dean Craig. Georges Bermann (Partizan Films) produced and Sylvain Goldberg, Serge de Poucques, Peter de Maegd, Tom Hameeuw and Grégoire Melin served as co-producers.

30. Ashley Greene talks about Tom Felton and "CBGB"

SnitchSeeker sat down with Todd Lincoln, the director of Tom Felton's (Draco Malfoy) new movie The Apparition, and Felton's costar Ashley Green. The Apparition hits theaters this Friday, August 24. Ashley Greene also costars with Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) in CBGB. Both Todd Lincoln and Ashley Greene talked about working with Tom Felton. Ashley also talked about acting along side Alan Rickman and meeting Rupert Grint.

Todd Lincoln: His audition was a very bold, effortless, iconic kind of audition. He was great with a lot of the technical terms and on his own he was interested in the paranormal. He watched all these ghost hunter shows and he loves this stuff. And I’d seen him grow as an actor and a person in the Harry Potter films, and he wanted to do something very different and I thought it was cool, this idea of a younger savvier guy being more the leader/expert character with this experiment in this film instead of doing the typical, “Okay, here’s the older character actor that you’re going to bring in and pay a lot of money to for two days.” It just seemed like a fresher choice.

How was it working with Tom Felton, since he’s Harry Potter and you’re Twilight?
Ashley Greene:
Oh, he’s so sweet. He’s really lovely and it was great. I think he’s a really fantastic actor. He was just very fun to be around. It’s an interesting thing whenever you come from two franchises like that. We chatted a little bit about the madness of it all ... lots of screaming people. And just the intensity of it all, the kind of zero to sixty of it was what we talked about. Coming from not really doing much and then becoming a part of a book series and then it just exploding and becoming this snowball effect. And chatted about how you become family with these people.

31. Rupert Grint Runs in Olympic Torch Relay, JK Rowling in Opening Ceremony

It is hectic here in Olympic London, as well as all over the country. Rupert Grint took part in the Olympic Torch Relay, running the ever-lit torch from Middlesex University. He ran the torch down hill to Barnet, near London. The Examiner reports:

One of 8,000 torchbearers who will have made this special 2012 Olympics run once its finally over and that started and will end in London, the 23-year-old actor was eager to take part in the tradition. The thespian did, however, admit to the British press that he is new to running.

Still, as this big run nears its end, Rupert Grint was successful and among the last to carry the official Olympics torch as this seminal symbol of the games heads for Olympic Stadium. There, the last torchbearer will light the cauldron in a dramatic way during the much-anticipated opening ceremony that say with a lot of pomp and circumstance that the games, herewith, begin.

There are images of Rupert available to see online--I am currently experiencing technical difficulties in embedding, my apologies.

In other Olympic news; the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic games has commenced here in London. It may be delayed do to time differences around the world. JK Rowling is taking part in this ceremony. It is a special appearance, and we hope to have footage shortly (as the ceremony is still in progress)! snitchseeker has posted rehearsal images online. The images show Jo reading, and a massive blow-up Voldemort!
