1. Story of a Girl movie news

Remember that time Kyra Sedgwick’s production company optioned the film rights for Story of a Girl? I know it was nearly ten years ago, but it’s been quietly simmering all this time thanks to the diligence and faith of Ms. Sedgwick and co. After several near-life experiences over the years that didn’t quite get past the green light, the project lives again.

The details, via Deadline.com:

The Closer star Kyra Sedgwick will make her directorial debut with Lifetime movie Story Of A Girl, based on the novel by Sara Zarr, with The Following alum and her husband Kevin Bacon set to star. Production begins this September in Vancouver for a 2017 debut on Lifetime following the film’s festival run.

I couldn’t be more proud to have this team behind this project, especially to be a part of a kickass woman’s directorial debut, because we need more women telling the stories of women and girls. It will of course be a little different from the book, as all adaptations are, but I’m absolutely thrilled about the whole project–especially that it will run in 2017, which is both the tenth anniversary of Story of a Girl, and the year of Gem & Dixie, which in many ways is more like Story than any of my books since.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the enthusiasm when this news made the rounds on social media!
