Blogger Lauren Becker and author Lee Bantle have teamed up for the Write an Author Campaign. Participants donate to a charity, write a letter to bestselling author Lisa McMann, and the winner receives a personalized letter from her. Details can be found here.
This week marked the release of Christina Diaz Gonzalez's A THUNDEROUS WHISPER. She's an author based in Miami, so most likely I'll get a signed copy to give away on my blog.
From Goodreads:
Ani believes she is just an insignificant whisper of a 12-year-old girl in a loud world. This is what her mother tells her anyway. Her father made her feel important, but he's been off fighting in Spain's Civil War, and his voice in her head is fading. Then she meets Mathias. His family has just moved to Guernica and he's as far from a whisper as a 14-year-old boy can be. Ani thinks Mathias is more like lightning. A boy of action. Mathias's father is part of a spy network and soon Ani finds herself helping him deliver messages to other members of the underground. She's actually making a difference in the world.
And then her world explodes. The sleepy little market town of Guernica is destroyed by Nazi bombers. In one afternoon Ani loses her city, her home, her mother. But in helping the other survivors, Ani gains a sense of her own strength. And she and Mathias make plans to fight back in their own unique way.
Next, I absolutely love Lana Del Rey and I'm thrilled to see she has a new song and video out. Here's "Ride," which is beautiful and haunting. At first I embedded the video, but there's a wee bit of profanity in it.
Have a great weekend, everyone.

Ani sounds like a strong character. Thanks for the rec!
A THUNDEROUS WHISPER sounds like a very ambitious novel. I'm very impressed with the thematic ideas -- and historicals are so hard. Yikes! All that research.
Thanks for the great post! :-)
That's actually the book I decided to spotlight for the upcoming Did I Notice Your Book? bloghop! I'm glad to see a straight YA historical getting some notice, in spite of the trend towards Gossip Girl-like stories using history as shallow window-dressing.
The title really packs a punch! Great cover as well.
Winning a letter. Guess if you're a big fan of hers that would be exciting.
A Thunderous Whisper sounds very powerful. I can't imagine writing historical fiction - too much pressure to be accurate with the details - so I'm always extra impressed by writers who take on that challenge.
I'm a huge fan of Lana Del Rey - didn't know she has a new song out... going to check it out on itunes now.
Love the cover and the book sounds great!
That reminds me I still have to read Gone.
don't like the plot, but I do love the title of the book, very catchy and the bookcover is quite nice too.
Love the title Thunderous Whisper - so much power in that! Sounds like a great book!
I agree. The book sounds wonderful. Your review brought her alive. Thanks.
Ride... yes, haunting, leaving me wanting and needing to know more. Thanks for the head's up, Medeia.
I love a good historical novel. A Thunderous Whisper has both an intriguing name and a lovely cover.
Thanks for the recommendation, Medeia!

I like the title of the book! Very cool.
That sounds like an amazing book! I've been meaning to read more historical fiction, so this will be a great one to get into. Thanks for the recommendation :)
Haunting is the perfect word for this. Thanks for the recommendation.
Oooooo... Fun things here, Medeia! Thanks so much for sharing! :)
Thank you for visiting, everyone. I hope to get a copy of the book soon for a giveaway.
