As we get ready to publish Professor Owl’s Newsletter on March 7th. We are thrilled to tell you that 2010 has been an exciting year for us at Professor Owl’s Book Corner. We not only have a new look for our newsletter we are pleased to announce that we are able to make our book corner even more exciting for you and your children also. This is due to a great organization called Shared Books Limited.
On the Sharing Books website www.sharing-books.com there are over 250 books available for download; every month we will feature one of their books in our Story Time Section.
Sharing Books is the home of children’s eBook’s, stories, and classic children’s literature. The books for download are free like share-ware in the software industry. Paying is completely optional and you decide if you can pay and how much you want to pay and what you pay is shared.
Sharing Books is a business that makes people smile. The creators find a welcoming outlet for their ideas while children learn to read in a fun way that fits the electronic age. The whole process helps a great cause by fostering and putting books in the hands of millions of children for free; they save trees as paper books which are only printed on an as needed basis.
Their charity partner Room to Read (ww.roomtoread.org) believes that world change starts with educated children. They envision a world in which all children can pursue a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential, contribute to their community and the world.
The mission of Room to Read is to seek and transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, they develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.
Professor Owl’s book of the month for March is titled Abby Diamond’s Adventures and is about a blind girl who likes to solve mysteries. We will also give the link to a video, on the author and the young girl who inspired the writer to write two books. The other book will be featured at a later date. If your child takes Professor Owl’s reading challenge to write and tell him about the books they have been reading. Their name will be entered in a draw to win a copy of Abby Diamond’s Adventures for themselves. We will of course remind them to get your permission before emailing us or downloading any books.
Our Variety Village hero this month must be one of the youngest we have ever featured, perhaps a gold medalist in future Paralympic Games. Between March 12th and 21st the Games will be held in Vancouver, BC. Follow Professor Owl’s blog http//professorowlsbookcorner2.wordpress.com highlights on the preparations and the games as they unfold.
As usual this month’s newsletter will have trivia, puzzles, colouring sheets, recipes, and crafts.. We will also introduce you to our very own St. Patrick. His Mom Renèe MacLachlan is a co-author of our “Treasure Chest of Resources.” We are busy putting together Part 2 for you. Making resources more accessible and available, because we know what’s more important – family! Look for it in April.
Belinda Witzenhausen another team member of Professor Owl’s Publication Centre is also pleased to mention that our sister site “Ignite Your Creativity,” will start introducing special creative activities for adults and children who have a disability. This should be up and running in June of this year.
