Now Playing - Blood Dirt Love Stop by The Heavy Life - Today was my 20 year high school reunion. First off - I'm getting old. Second, I'd really never planned on attending at all anyway - high school was not remotely a pleasant experience or a highlight for me - I was the fat nerdy kid in the corner with a book and worse grades than he should have had that got teased quite a lot for

Now Playing - I Am Invisible by They Might Be Giants Well, hello! Sorry about the delay, as usual! It's been a hectic year, between two dozen comic con appearances, a "kids" alphabet book and the always there shop madness, this blog kind of fell by the wayside, but I'll be trying to do better in the new year, using this blog as both a personal journal and as a way for my fans and

Now Playing - Here I Go Again by Whitesnake Life - Last weekend Linz and I traveled with her folks to Great Falls, MT for the memorial of her grandmother, Ethel Graves. Rich, my father-in-law has been driving a lot lately, so I volunteered to be the driver for this trip. As it turns out, 6-7 hour drive to Great Falls for a weekend is a pretty short drive for me, now that

Now Playing - Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis Life - .... Once again, there's been a gap and much has happened! We are still living in Idaho, working on the shop and trying to get back to writing as well - I'm going to a lot of comic cons - about 1-2 a month and we are starting to get the house in order. We lost Pooka to cancer just before Christmas, the rest of the
Now Playing - Tonguetied by Grouplove Life - Well, a lot has happened. Actually, since I last posted anything about our lives, a whole lifetime has happened, it seems like. Technically, the last time I posted anything about our life was back in January, when I laid out our plans for 2014. It's now... nearly 10 months later. Long story short – We moved out of Maine,

Now Playing - Girl Is On My Mind by The Black Keys For the last few years my wife and I have been selling our handmade décor and geeky stuff on Etsy, an online marketplace. What is the first thing people ask us when they find out that’s what we do for a living? Not “What’s the shop?” or “Ooh, what do you sell?” No, it’s almost invariably something like “I make things too… I

<!--[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]--> A somewhat brief note of clarification for those of you who have found me changed or felt neglected by me over the past couple of months. A number of months ago wheels began turning that would change our lives. To go into the whole thing here would involve more time than I currently have or care to give, but to make a long story short: Once again

Now Playing - Creepin' Up The Back Stairs by The Fratellis Life - Over the past few weeks I've had an unusual number of people ask me about resources for publishing their own work and I figured rather than cutting and pasting the response to everyone, I'd make a blog I could send people to. Obviously, this is far from complete and I'm not going into extreme depth on most
Now Playing - One Night In Bangkok by Murray Head Life - I just posted an update on the Deeply Dapper Blog - a post on my recent table time at TempleCon 14. The first update on that blog in almost a year... hahah Enjoy!

Now Playing - Last Christmas by Dexter Freebish Life - Every year for Christmas, we get a new ornament. It's a tradition I've been doing since I was a little boy. When Lindsay and I started getting a tree together we started choosing an ornament as a family. I've been lax on updating this blog and as we were trimming the tree this year, it struck us how much we like having a

Now Playing - Ho Hey by The Lumineers Life - Yesterday, my sister in law asked me for some suggestions for books. This is an awesome thing, because I've never thought of her as a reader. However, when asked what kind of book, she was unclear. That makes it hard, because there are so many different genres and so many great books in each and all very different. On the plus

Now Playing - The Bomb by Bitter:Sweet Life - About a month ago, I found a few old cookbooks at Goodwill to go with my beloved Mexican cookbook. I have become a total sucker for cookbooks from the fifties and sixties. Not just their recipes but the way they did things and the little comments and intros are fantastic. But above all else, the recipes themselves take center stage
Now Playing - End Of The Worlde by Great Big Sea Family Album My lovely bride and my slightly less lovely best friend Rob, at our annual Brain Eaters party, back in 2009. Rob always has the best costumes, even when he does something as simple as this. Gotta love it. The ROUS FAMILY -

Now Playing - In The Name Of Love by U2 Family Album - TREBOR MANSION We spotted this building while we were out cruising around for Maine Maple Sunday last year. It looked like it had once (And possibly still is) an inn.... The building was BEAUTIFUL and quirky but man, it was a mess. Not exactly the type of place I would cruise up to for a quiet weekend with my wife.
Now Playing - Take On Me by Ah-Ha Life - Back in October of 2011, we bought a little 8x8 shed from Home Depot for our front yard. They came out and installed it and I spent a few days installing insulation, cheap walls and painting it, transforming it into my Fortress Of Smallitude. (The post on that is HERE) It wasn't the best place in the world, but it was cozy and worked
Now Playing - White & Nerdy by Weird Al Yankovic New Series - Cooking With Kris! I love to cook. Which is a good thing, since Linz does not. I find the entire process fun and enjoy trying different recipes, making modifications or our own versions of things. I tend towards crock pot meals, primarily because its fits our schedule but also because our kitchen and supplies out here in

Well, I'm now caught up. I've noticed that reality has a way of changing my plans. Believe it or not, my goal in life was to be a sports writer and cover the New York Yankees. Well, things didn't quite turn out that way...but I'm satisfied. I only got as far east as North Dakota, but it's provided a good living for me and it's been a pleasure to be married to Belinda and
