2. The Beauty of Florida's Swamps

Mistress of the Glade

A Divine Mistress

In Nature's pieces still I see Some error that might mended be; Something my wish could still remove, Alter or add; but my fair love Was fram'd by hands far more divine, For she hath every beauteous line: Yet I had been far happier, Had Nature, that made me, made her. Then likeness might (that love creates) Have made her love what now she hates; Yet I confess I cannot spare From her just shape the smallest hair; Nor need I beg from all the store Of heaven for her one beauty more. She hath too much divinity for me: You gods, teach her some more humanity.

4. What a Wonderful World - New Painting

There is a certain uplift and elevation one feels while listening to Louis Armstrong's beautiful song
"What a Wonderful World".

5. City of Angels

"The City's Love. For one brief golden moment rare like wine, The gracious city swept across the line; Oblivious of the color of my skin, Forgetting that I was an alien guest, She bent to me, my hostile heart to win, Caught me in passion to her pillowy breast; The great, proud city, seized with a strange love, Bowed down for one flame hour my pride to prove."
~ Claude McKay

6. Fish in the Sky

SIREN'S LURE
digital painting,©Susi Galloway

Ode

WE are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

Arthur O'Shaughnessy. 1844–1881

8. Thunderstorm

While doing some remote work at the East Coast of Florida, during a thunder storm, I created this painting while watching the forces of nature through a window. Tropical storms always capture my fancy!

19. Happy Holidays!

Let Christmas not become a thing
Merely of merchant's trafficking,
Of tinsel, bell and holly wreath
And surface pleasure, but beneath
The childish glamour, let us find
Nourishment for soul and mind.
Let us follow kinder ways
Through our teeming human maze,
And help the age of peace to come
From a Dreamer's martyrdom.

23. The Loneliest Muse

About the Book:
Hope faces the greatest challenge a Muse has ever known!  She lacks a talent in which to inspire others.  Hope is a young, black, Muse who looks to be a child of six or seven but in actuality is over 200 years old and resides on the island of Leisha with her eight sisters the Greek, Goddesses of inspiration.  Though loved by all, it is foreseen by Delphi the blind Muse of prophecy that in order for Hope to find her talent and fulfill her destiny she must do what mo other Muse has ever done.  She must leave the island of Leisha.  Hope is scared and unsure about her sisters decision but Clio the Muse of history assures her its the only way but she will not go alone.  Aided by a beautiful, golden swan boat whose magic can take Hope to where she is needed most, she sails off into the approaching dawn uncertain where the boat will take her. Book is coming soon.

24. Art, Poetry and Epic

My recent artwork titled "SIREN'S LURE" has inspired Poet and Writer Francis Don Daniels (Donny).  He wrote an amazing Ekphrasis titled...

THE TIMELESS SPELL

THE  TIMELESS SPELL - THE EQUATION

THE TIMELESS  SPELL - L' ENVOI

(An Ekphrasis or ecphrasis is the graphic, often dramatic description of a visual work of art)
----------------------------------------------------------------

SIREN'S LURE

THE TIMELESS SPELL- AN EKPHRASIS

Woman
of infinite beauty
eyes of crystal
and celestial body
horizon where sleeps
the eternal sun.

Goddess of Seduction,
Sorceress of the Seas,
a thousand lips of kisses.
Immortal seed tempting
love and charm
like a dream you came to me
and I fell into your arms.

Out on the blue deep,
I, but a lone seafarer
when you came.
So shrill the siren call
I could not tell
the sky from the sea.
Endless hours of hope and despair
driven by your lure, is it to end
without your love-

To be my Calypso
bound
to the Earth
revolving
black to gold,
tracking
with the seasons
the oceans' ebb and flow
to end upon the jagged shores
of the lost and gone,
kept as your pawn
my captured soul.

In the hourglass
the sand that flows
is me, from
life to life
in a timeless spell.

Lost
on a desert caravan
I roam the dunes
of ancient time,
withered and parched
and mind awry,
forlorn
of your magic waters.

What man or immortal
has betrayed you,
so bled your heart
from ill-promised love
that with resentful will
all men you scorn?
To suffer the pain
of your broken heart;
To be the fuel
for your sadistic love;
To burn and be
your redemption.

And now
leaving me
as between
Scylla and Charybdis-
the machine existence
of modern man,
despoiled of native sentience
to endure living by drugs
and surigal means
and worship
the gray mattered brain.

Return me
to where you found me
out on the deep blue sea,
as the fishes
who swim at you side
or the coral
who color your reef,
to live in the waters
of your crystal eyes.

Woman
in my mind
the hourglass flows
only for you.
If only I can keep
this heavy heart adrift
lest it drown
in its sinking sadness.

Woman
of infinite beauty.
