Coloring Sheet for March. Mouse from the book "Yes, Jesus Loves You".

I'm really into drawing bunnies of late and I will have more in the future completed. I'm going to try and do a promo piece postcards with several of these bunny illustrations. In the mean time I'm writing a little poem for a picture book based off of some illustration I did.

I thought of an illustration I'd done for a Christian children's book. The shepherds are tending their flock of sheep.
The theme Storm reminds me of the illustration I did of a storm coming onto the beaches of Tybee, GA. This illustration was done in pastel.
Everyone has their own way of sending out promotional material to prospective clients. In the past I've had postcards printed and mailed them out or sent out letter size print outs. These days I do things differently. I like something about having more of a hands on involvement with my mailers. I gang my images on letter size doc in InDesign. Then I make a PDF of the pages. Then I go to my local staples to get it printed out in color on premium white paper. I find I just don't get the quality I want off of my own printer. I hand cut the images out. It's not too bad since they are 4up. The images are spray mounted on to cover stock paper that I've used my regular pinter to print my contact info on the back. I feel like the final looks better then the old postcards I sent out. There is hand quality to it and I'm not stuck with way more postcards then I need.
Work changes and evolves and this method allows me more control on the quantity and quality. I make inner envelope by hand from vellum in various colors. I purchased greeting card size envelopes in various colors. It works for my needs. I also will print my business cards on the cover stock to include in my mailer. When I'm doing a mailing of promos I might only have 40-50 prospective clients I'm sending out to. I send out 1x during the summer and 1x during dec or feb. I'm working on my feb mailings now. It's only a list of 10 and growing. I'm particular about who I send out to. I've learned to target and to be cost effective. I can tell by a look at the backlist or current titles if it's worth sending anything out.
The USPS also has a service that you can make single or multiple postcards and save an address book. To keep track of whom I've sent to I made a word doc that has the addresses listed on it for the mailing labels. The file will have their names/address and I just look and see when the file was last modified. I don't bother having my samples returned back normally. I used to in the past but now I just want to save money on postage.
In the future I'm planning on designing a one page promo sheet of various illustrations to send out as a follow up. We'll see how that goes.

Pegasus is one of the best known mythological creatures in Greek mythology.

It's interesting looking at the various styles of illustrators overseas. They have such a unique aesthetic. Korean Illustrator's Group. I love the work of Park, Sun-Young and Chun Hea-Ryoung. These two ladies have such amazing work. They have interviews under the interview section. There is video but it is not subtitled. I want to step into the work of Park Sun-Young. Chun Hea-Ryoung work is layered and dynamic collage.
This was a fun intro book for young children on some simple Korean words.
My First Book of Korean Words by Henry Amen and Kyubyong Park.
Here's the description from Amazon.com: My First Book of Korean Words introduces Korean language and culture to preschool children in a gentle, playful way. Its ABC structure provides a familiar framework that encourages fun and easy learning. The mix of everyday words, sound words and words specific to Korean life gives kids a varied sample of language and culture. Each word taught is shown in Hangeul as well as in its Romanized form, and cultural and linguistic notes here and there enhance the learning experience. Kids will love Ji-min and her friends as they join her from page to colorful page!
It brings up some points about the Korean language not having some of the same letter sounds and illustrations are very cute!
Quick sketch. I thought of the St. Nick for this one.
I've been wanting to learn korean for some time. Here are some great sites I've found that can help with learning the language and culture.

Just finished a editorial illustration for Guardian Angel's Childrens Ezine. Preview. It's not the entire illustration. It will be in their Jan. 2013 issue.
Sketch for a cocoa bear shop. Things look so much cuter when written in korean. I thought about Maurice Sendak's illustrations of Little Bear. Especially the story about when he asked his mother for a coat, etc.
A dear from in ATL was kind enought to send me photos of my work that was included in the Southern Breeze Illustrator's Art Show in the Decatur Library.
Shiny like a comet passing through the night sky.

I've heard more of my fellow illustrators and authors offer Skype or Virtual Visits. I'm fortunate to have a nice relationship with the author of the books I've illustrated. Heather and I did a joint presentation with a group of students. She did an amazing job. Webcam needs to be attached. I used a ziggi cam as a webcam. We tested prior to the visit to make sure it would work. Having some kind of projector to have it easier for the audience to see who they are speaking to. Make sure you have an internal or external mic. I actually had to plug in my USB external mic. Then make sure that you specify the external mic in skype. Then you are off and running. It worked really well. I think it makes it more accessible for kids to meet authors, illustrators, or artists.

Illustration assignment for Guardian Angel Magazine.

This is a sketch for a 32 page children's book project that I was working on for myself. Based on a Korean folktale similar to the three little pigs. The story's antagonist is a hunger tiger who hides in secret while waiting for the mother to go away. This leaves three sisters inside the house trying to avoid letting the clever tiger inside.
