1. What Your Soul Wants

What does your soul really, truly want? Maybe you're a little bit afraid that someone else such as your significant other might not approve. Maybe you're just not sure how to accomplish it. Maybe you haven't yet identified what it is you want. You have to listen. Just be still and listen with an open heart and a child-like curiosity. Pen it all down. Then act with courage. Taking action is the

2. I Heart Hula Hooping

To the age old question, "what did you do on your summer vacation?", I proudly reply this: I fell in love with hula hooping. It was June 2nd at the Evanston Farmers Market when it all began. A vendor was selling hula hoops, a big, beautiful, colorful pile of hula hoops. They shouted at me loud and clear. She handed me a gigantic hoop, the biggest I've ever seen, and showed me what to do (

5. 501st Sketch Cards!

The legendary 501st Legion has put together an awesome sketch card set for the upcoming Star Wars mega-convention, Celebration. If you haven't been to a Star Wars Celebration convention, you simply cannot call yourself a Star Wars fan (ok, well, you can but...). Anyway, this devoted group of costumers have been supporting charities with their presence for years. It was an honor to put my

6. Meditate Like Yoda, You Must

If Yoda meditates, so should YOU. Here's why: •It will quiet your inner world in the midst of a very loud outer world (the world needs less noise!) •It will improve your memory and concentration (good for just about everything, especially as we get older) •It will improve your self-confidence because you'll tap into the true YOU, and not the "you" that society wants you to be •It will

7. C2E2 Superhero Fitness Challenge Booth!

When my friend and fellow fitness instructor Melanie Bolen asked me if I wanted to help out with her Superhero Fitness Challenge booth at C2E2, it was an opportunity not to be missed. Being a yoga teacher, girl geek, and artist, it was a perfect chance to combine all three. This promo card was created exclusively for the show. I feel it super important to include daily meditation as part of

8. Vector Art- I Love You, Don't Hurt Me

I'm continuing on my vector art journey. For me personally, I feel it's a must to develop a portfolio of digital work. I've experimented with digital many times before, like with these . I was combining Photoshop with hand-drawn line art and hand-painted textures. But still, I just wasn't connecting with digital media. And physically I really wasn't prepared for spending long hours in front of

9. Star Wars Galaxy 7 Sketch Cards (Meditation Series)

I thought it would be fun to compile all the cards from my Meditation Series, from the new Star Wars: Galaxy 7 trading card set. Drawing these was definitely a meditation for me:) And yes, I do meditate daily. It's changed my life and if you haven't tried it, you should. I really love how they turned out, especially the baddies like Jabba. Yes, Jabba even takes a shot at meditation! You can

10. Experimenting with Illustrator and Elephants

I'm in the process of developing a portfolio of vector art and what better way than to start with one of my cute, happy elephants. I've always been drawn to Illustrator much more so than Photoshop. I feel like I have a 'handle' on Illustrator, whereas Photoshop feels more ambiguous to me. I have a super ancient Wacom with a drawing area the size of a Saltine cracker which is a bit frustrating

11. Grateful for Trees

Thanks to La Nina, it's been a very mild winter in Chicago. So much so that many trees are budding and it's only February! Part of me is very excited and hopeful for a super early spring, but the reality is I've lived in Chicago long enough to know that very soon, the other shoe will drop (just ask Tom Skilling!). None the less, here's to all the trees that give us shade, and beautify our urban

12. ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: GROUNDED

Why I love Yoga, in a nutshell: It keeps my ego in check. It keeps me free of unnecessary stress. It shows me there's other ways to looks at life. It teaches me to be compassionate towards myself, and towards others. It challenges my courage, in a supportive way. It makes me laugh at myself. It makes me feel rather unstoppable at times. It shows me when I have to stop at times. It teaches

15. Combining Art and Yoga

Just like yoga, my art has always been a therapeutic, meditative process. These days I'm combining my love for both. These cuties are small works of art known as ACEO's. If you're not familiar with the term, ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals. Art Cards are original works of art, that the artist sells or trades with other artists or to collectors. Sometimes, artists will turn

17. ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: Messenger

I haven't been keeping up with Illustration Friday as I would like, so I decided to pull out this old(ish) piece for this weeks theme, Messenger. The original art was sold long ago (2007), and this one is still a favorite of mine. It was an ACEO, drawn with Copics. It's called "Into The Post".

20. Star Wars: Galaxy VII Sketch Cards

Back in 2004, I worked on my first set of Star Wars sketch cards for Topps and Lucasfilm. Since then I've worked on one or two sets a year and have really enjoyed this work. If you're not familiar with sketch cards, they are one of a kind works of art found in hobby boxes (hobby boxes are purchased direct through Topps and contain several packs of cards, one of which contains a randomly inserted

22. ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY - SCATTERED

Hello again, and let me say it's good to be back! I'm feeling refreshed, renewed and energized from after a much-needed hiatus from art. If you don't know, aside from being an artist, I'm also a yoga freak. I practice like crazy because frankly, it feels amazing and it does wonders to leave me a lot less mentally SCATTERED. And it's not surprise that yoga has crept into my art. It was

23. ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: Imperfect

I drew these cuties for fun earlier this week and thought it would be a great fit for this weeks IF them, Imperfect. After all, yoga teaches us that it's perfectly ok to be imperfect. If we could teach this to our young kids, especially girls, imagine how pressure it would take off them. Imagine.

25. Welcome, Summer (at last)

Earlier this week I chatted with my neighbor while she planted more summer annuals. She seemed so natural at it, the way she knelt in the flower bed, so connected with nature and spirit. The urge to join in couldn't be resisted and I helped her plant impatiens and marigolds. There's something about digging in the dirt that makes all the troubles of life just float away.
