For many years, and for more than ten books mostly for young people, I was published in New York and elsewhere. (e.g. Holiday House, Simon & Schuster, Scholastic). In 1993, I created a grassroots, direct mail publishing company, Heartsong Books, to move my books into the world in ways that reflect the kinship vision expressed on their pages. A non-fiction Heartsong Books title for ages 10+, Roots of Peace~Seeds of Hope: A Journey for Peacemakers was praised by Howard Zinn, Matthew Fox, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Native elders, and many more generous people whose names you would know. One of my picture books, The Best Way to Ripton, was a Junior Literary Guild selection. Another, A Garden of Whales, won a Vermont Publishers award, was a bestseller in Maine bookstores, and shortly will be going into its fifth printing, after nearly fifteen years of being in print. Now, I am devoting myself to writing, fulltime, for young people. a delight!particular and current interests whales and crop circles, plus presenting in classrooms, libraries, parks--anywhere!--materials and ways of being, likely to open minds and hearts. for this, using puppets and pennywhistles is fun, and of course, not just lecturing or reading, but interacting with the children.below, the brief introduction to my book, Caring in Remembered Ways, which celebrates the interconnectedness of all life. so pleased to include the introduction here! some future point, i 'd be delighted to share opening lines to my new manuscripts that are circulating.
