I have always loved books and starting writing when I was 5, making up stories about ghosts and girls having adventures. I worked in the publishing industry for much of the first half of my career, editing academic journals, magazines, corporate newsletters, and nonfiction books. In the late 1990s I started writing children's books for Troll and Scholastic Book Fairs and Book Clubs and started freelance writing full-time in 2000. I have written 43 books so far; most of them are about history and social studies and are geared toward a middle-school audience.

In 2005 I began teaching at Full Sail University, and because I wanted to concentrate on that, I have not taken on any lengthy writing projects since then. I am now looking into writing a few books a year, and because I have a passion for history, I would love to continue writing about that or related subjects.
