HCI, The Life Issues Publisher has been publishing books that change lives since 1977. Originally operating as a publisher of informational pamphlets for the recovery community, HCI's moved into mainstream publishing in the 1980s with its first New York Times bestseller, the 1983 Adult Children of Alcoholics by Dr. Janet Woititz's, a veritable "bible" of the ACOA movement. More This first bestseller was followed by Bradshaw On: The Family, and Healing the Shame That Binds You both by John Bradshaw. Aware of the significant shifts in the recovery movement, HCI actively expanded its book list to include a broader selection of titles. Now regarded as The Life Issues Publisher, HCI continues a tradition of providing readers with inspiring and motivating personal growth and self help books. In 1994 HCI published the first Chicken Soup for the Soul book which not only became a New York Times bestseller, but continues to be an international publishing phenomenon. Since 1994 the books in the Chicken Soup For The Soul series have sold more than 65 million copies. HCI has expanded its publishing operations to encompass: Inspiration, Soul/Spirituality, Relationships, Recovery/Healing, Women's Issues, and Self Help. With these themes, HCI represents a broad base in the marketplace of contemporary books. Currently, HCI publishes over 500 titles and maintains contractual relationships with over 150 authors. Recent New York Times and national bestsellers include: A Child Called "It" and The Lost Boy, by Dave Pelzer; The 7 Worst Things Good Parents Do by John and Linda Friel; The Power of Focus, Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Les Hewitt, and The Schwarzbein Principle, by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein.
