Okay, I already liked rats and bats, but the respect and concern for cockroaches took me by surprise. Gregor and his sister, Boots' unusual adventures are peopled with so many well-developed secondary characters, it's like loving a whole country. The whole series is pretty great, but the first book is amazing.
