For some reason it just gripped me. I think it was because of the style of writing and his voice throughout the story. The repetition of a world that has moved on is very gripping. I've always seen a story as having an origin that didn't involve (a world that has moved on), so this was weird and exciting. The last ten pages or so made me read the next books. I was one of the lucky ones that saw he was coming out with books V, VI and VII right after I got done with the fourth one. Everybody needs to read these books.
