About Cheryl Kirk
When I was growing up in Delaware, I loved to draw. Today, I still love to draw, and feel incredibly fortunate that I actually get to do it for a living!
My favorite books to illustrate are about people from other places or time periods...especially folktales and historic stories. It's an adventure to research the culture or time period and visualize the way that people lived so long ago or far away. "A Basket of Bangles" won a Skipping Stones Cultural Diversity Honor award.
I also teach at Rhode Island School of Design-CE and am the advisor for the Children's Book certificate program there. In 2008, I recieved their Teacher of Excellence award. I graduated from RISD, and also have a BS in elementary education from Lebanon Valley College in PA. I do school visits and conference presentations.
I belong to a wonderful group of artists called Freelance Artist's Network, as well as SCBWI and PBAA.
