On August 9, 1990, sixteen-year-old American Jeff Connors enters the lobby of a four-star hotel in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, dressed in the ragged clothes of an Arab Bedouin. He's there to be reunited with his father, from whom he'd been separated for one terror-filled week. His happiness and relief are tempered by one vexing problem: should he give his judgmental father a short and sanitized version of his week, one which would make him look competent and in control, or should he lay it all out? The bonehead decisions? The risks? The narrow escapes? In the end, he does all that and more, thanks to a new-found sense of courage and resourcefulness. Surviving an invasion by a ruthless Iraqi army will do that.
Sandstorm is the story of one young American. Jeff has no idea he's been caught in the first strike of a local war that will, over the years, threaten to screw up the whole world. During his traumatic week, he's just trying to stay alive.
