MoreTizzie, aged nearly eleven, and Louis, aged seven-and-three-quarters, are on holiday in Cornwall when they enter Echo Cave and are transported through the Crystal Pool to the amazing and mysterious Kingdom of Kernowland in Erthwurld. Kidnapped by the nasty Melanchol Drym to be sold as slaves to Cap'n Pigleg and his pirates, they are soon separated in a slave auction at the Polperro Inn. Their plight looks hopeless... until Louis is helped by the kindly Mr Sand. He discovers she is being taken to Jungleland, to be used as bait for Big Red Grunter, a huge, mutant, child-eating wild boar. Now, before they can go home, the young boy has to rescue his sister. And so their adventure in Erthwurld begins...
Erthwurld is a whole new world of adventure for boys and girls alike. There are lots of lands where the adventures take place, including Jungleland, Sandland, and Snowland. The cast of characters includes horrible villains, brave heroes, monsters, mutants, dragons, castles, pirates, princesses, mermaids, and, of course, Dribble the dust dog and the nine gnomes of Washaway Wood. The action includes challenging quests and ancient magic, with many skirmishes and some great battles along the way, all culminating in the ultimate test of the heroes in the sixth and final book, Colosseum of Dread.
Since publication of the first book in the Kernowland in Erthwurld series in September 2005, author, Jack Trelawny, has visited over 800 schools to tell children all about the Kernowland in Erthwurld stories and attended over 50 signing sessions at bookshops. He has signed and dedicated over 70,000 copies of the hardback editions of the the series, which are now available in ebook format.
Many elements of the six stories have a parallel in the real world. Jack explains more about using the real world as a resource for stories on his visits to schools, so giving the children ideas for creating their own stories from their own knowledge and experience.
