GOALS - TURNING UNIQUE GIFTS INTO CONTRIBUTIONS
It's hard for Kylie to leave her friends and risk the unknown forest path. But she has a dream she must follow. It is time for Kylie to say goodbye to her friends, even her very best friend, Willy Wagtail. She must leave the security of her eucalyptus tree to follow the forest path and a new dream. On her journey Kylie will meet some of the most unusual creatures of the Australian wilderness - among them the echidna, the tree kangaroo, and the tawny frogmouth. She will see the forest's treasures and learn its secrets. And she will be warned of a terrible danger threatening the forest world. Author Patty Sheehan has once again created a world of magic and meaning. As children travel with Kylie through the enchanting Australian wilderness, they will learn about the importance of taking care of our natural world. And they will discover with Kylie that by nurturing their own dreams, they may make their greatest contributions to others.
A SURPRISE and added bonus is the "Enrichment Information" which includes lots of facts about the flora and fauna of Australia such as the Willy Wagtail, the Mammals of Australia, the Bowerbird, the Sugar Glider, the Tree Kangaroo, the Koala, the Kookaburra, the Tawny Frogmouth, the Wallaby, the Emu, the Ringtail Possum, the Platypus, the Flying Fox and the Echidna. This is fascinating detail that did not make it into the story itself, but is very rich in interesting description.
A second big plus is the "Letter to Parents and Educators" which includes many relevant questions and comments to facilitate conversation with young readers about the message of the story...protecting the earth and turning unique gifts into contributions. So even though on the surface this is just an engaging story for children, it is also truly helpful in a real way.
