MoreThe BookMann Family is a new series of cartoon characters that are all shaped like books. The main characters-BookMann, Thesis, Pamphlet, Booklet, Tablet, Leaflet, and Opus-are part of a family, called the BookMann Family. Other characters include friends, relatives, acquaintances, and even enemies of the BookMann family. All the characters "live" in a library. Like real library books, most of these characters are borrowed from the library. They experience adventures as they interact with the outside world and the people who borrow them. Each member of the family is a specific type of book. The personality of the character reflects the type of book they are. For example, BookMann is a book about teaching how to use a computer, so he is logical and methodical in his approach to life and raising his family. The personality of each character is central to each story, which enables children and parents to relate to the characters, their struggles, joys, successes, failures, and challenges.
In Book 1: Don't Judge a Book by its Cover, daughter Pamphlet wants to join her brother Booklet on the boys' baseball team, but she is turned away. With some help from grandfather Opus and mother Thesis, she and her brother discover the difficulties in making quick and unfair judgments about people without giving them a chance. They also learn how a brother and sister need to stick up for each other.
The lessons behind this story are to teach kids to be tolerant of other people and that you can't judge someone just by his or her outward appearances.
Meet the BookMann Family:
BookMann is a book that teaches about how computers work. He is the father of Pamphlet, Booklet, Tablet, and Leaflet. He is also the husband of Thesis. He is borrowed frequently and is very popular. He is smart, fair, honest, and thinks very logically.
Thesis is a book about History. She is the mother of Pamphlet, Booklet, Tablet, and Leaflet. She is also the wife of BookMann and daughter of Opus. She is either borrowed or read in the library. She loves to teach and is very interested in learning new subjects herself!
Opus is the reference encyclopedia for the library. He is Thesis's father, and the grandfather of Pamphlet, Booklet, Tablet, and Leaflet. He is very old and wise and knows practically everything. He can never be borrowed from the library. He strolls about his library home, using a ruler for a walking stick.
Pamphlet is a book about fashion design. She is the sister of Booklet, Tablet, and Leaflet and the daughter of BookMann and Thesis. She is also a granddaughter of Opus. She is borrowed several times a month, is talkative and clever, but can sometimes be a bit bossy. She is 12 years old, and can often be found talking on her cell phone with her best friend Glossy.
Booklet is a book about the history of baseball. He is the brother of Pamphlet, Tablet, and Leaflet. He is the oldest son of BookMann and Thesis. He is also a grandson of Opus. He is borrowed frequently and is very active with his friends. Booklet can also be rather shy and often tries to hide his bashfulness with a tough and scrappy attitude. He is 7 years old.
Tablet is an "e-book" (electronic book) recently adopted into the BookMann Family. He can do many wonderful things on his writable computer screen, and can plug into the Internet. He is 4 years old and wants to be just like his big brother Booklet.
Leaflet is a document for reference only, which means that he is never borrowed from the library. He is the youngest child of BookMann and Thesis, and the grandson of Opus. As an infant, he is naturally curious about his library world. He wears a diaper, clipped with a paper clip instead of a safety pin.
