This book takes the reader on a voyage of discovery in an imaginary "mini-sub" which travels through the "twilight zone" and slides down the continental slope to a vast abyssal plain. It introduces giant sea spiders, sneaky sea squirts, and worms making "fairy rings". At a mid-ocean ridge, molten lava melts the Earth's crust and hot-water spouts are home to amazing animals. The "mini-sub" visits rocky slopes of underwater volcanoes with soft corals and shoals of brightly coloured fish. Finally, it makes a difficult and dangerous dive to the deepest place on Earth, the Mariana Trench. This book is part of a series of illustrated science texts for children, teenagers and families.
