In 1960, a children's song was recorded in Cleveland about a little dog who helped Santa deliver presents. The dog, Boofo, became immensely popular, but didn't gain the widespread following of a Frosty or Rudolph. Now the man who wrote the song has written a book, all about how Boofo came to be Santa's right-hand dog. It promises to bring Boofo back to life in the hearts of children all over the country. Santa and his elfin companions, Mr. Boom, Mr. Bam, and Mr. Bim, find Boofo shivering in the snow one day. They take care of him and he rewards them by helping make toys in the workshop and remembering the toy list when Santa is getting ready to take off on Christmas Eve. Santa invites Boofo to ride along with him in his sleigh and hold the reins while Santa goes down the chimney. This adorable puppy will endear himself to every child who reads the book. The bright, colorful illustrations, reminiscent of the fifties-style Christmas cartoons, add to the story. A member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), Joseph P. King is a retired singer who lives in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. This is Mr. King's first book. The late E. Del Thomas, a native of Cleveland, also wrote the book So You Want to Be a Father. Illustrator Dick Dugan has been the sports cartoonist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer , Ohio's biggest newspaper, since 1962.
