This volume features 22 two-to-three-page stories that vary in reading difficulty from beginning third through beginning fifth grade to meet a range of needs.

There are traditional tall tales such as Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox, Slue-Foot Sue, Stormalong, John Henry, Mike Fink, Johnny Appleseed, Davy Crockett, and Joe Magarac, to name just a few.

There are also original and lesser known tall tales such as Farmer Ted, Jesse O, Engineer Red and Sooner Hound, Joe and Bess Call, Pea Soup Shorty, Annie Christmas, Mose-the Volunteer Fireman, and Little Sir-the Rooster.
