This is a charming short story designed for very young children and intended to teach the concept of giving to those less fortunate even if you think you have nothing to give. The main character, Easter Bunny-also known as E. Bunny, has a case of doldrums because it is Christmas time and not Easter...and therefore, he does not have his usual stash of eggs and candy to give away.
To ease his anxiety and sadness, he decides to take a walk. Heading out toward Farmer Hogan's farm, he happens upon a poor soul (Sammy Scarecrow) who is about to be blown away in the winter wind because his straw is falling out. After considering Sammy's situation, E. Bunny gets a terrific idea and hops back to the Bunny Village where he lives and calls to his bunny friends and relatives to listen to his plan.
The bunnies devise a strategy and they all head out for Sammy's place which is in Farmer Hogan's cornfield. Sammy is still shivering and miserable and upon a command from E. Bunny, all the little bunnies hop up on Sammy and cuddle together. Sammy is happy and pleased to be given this gift of warmth. However, realizing that they can't stay hooked onto Sammy forever, the next day the bunny ladies get together and sew Sammy a brand new coat so his straw stuffing won't fall out and Sammy is a cheerful scarecrow once again.
