This is the second book in the Adventures With Lucy the Llama series. The adventures continue as Gracie returns to the farm for Christmas break. She discovers that she and Lucy can no longer speak to one another. When the two seek out Lowan Maka, the keeper of the forest, they are faced with a frightening new quest. The great coyote, Shung the trickster, has not only stolen Lucy's magic necklace but has kidnapped Lowan Maka in order to make himself ruler of the forest. His terrifying appearance and ability to disguise himself as any creature in the forest make Shung a dangerous foe. As time runs out, Lucy and Gracie must find a way to communicate in order defeat Shung. With the help of a new friend, the ancient turtle Keya, the two warriors discover that they have a few tricks of their own.
