This story brings back so many of the memories and experiences from her youth. She captures the sights, sounds, and smells of maple syrup production from the viewpoint of a young child. The story describes the process of making maple syrup, from tapping the trees to boiling down gallons of sap. The book can be used to help children understand the in depth process of making the sweet maple syrup they enjoy in their homes. The oil paintings illustrations in the book are all plein air or painted outside in the open quickly in one sitting with a palette knife. The photos are original photos taken in the seventies of the family sugar shanty.
