Annabelle Leigh is a very cranky mermaid who worries all day and all night. About big things and small things, what if and what might? She swims through the sea annoying the other sea creatures with her shrieks and her shouts. She finds herself without friends as all the other sea creatures soon swim away from her. She is too busy worrying and blaming them for the possibility of things going wrong to notice how her worrying is affecting them. It is with the help of wise old Ollie Octopus and a visit to a coral reef that she finally learns to cope with her worrying and become a more colorful and kinder mermaid in the process. This whimsical tale was written for young children who worry too much. As a former clinical social worker who spent 15 years working with abused children, ages 3-12, in a residential treatment facility, I often used storytelling as a way to help the children heal and begin to move forward.
