I am a first grade teacher on Staten Island. I have two children and a guinea pig named Creamsicle and a dog, Shadow. My daughter Laura Ann Donnelly helped me with the book because she is very good at cartoon- like pictures that I needed. I started writing the book when I was a substitute teacher and I noticed a lot of kids had to go on with their lives without one or both of their parents. I wanted to give the children some hope to know they could still have a happy life. After 9/11 happened and I saw kids at my school lose family members I knew that there was a need for my book. I could not find many books for kids that lost a parent and that made me sad and angry. So my book deals with the death of a parent plus what a child can do about all the sadness and empty emotions that they will experience in the years to follow. I hope it brings a bit of hope to their hearts.
