The goal of my book is to promote basic physical science vocabulary in the early grades.
Media messages remind us often of the lack of science proficiency in our graduates, and as usual they demand the teachers do something about it!
HOW CAN THIS BOOK HELP? Students can read it, hear it read, and look at it with sheer enjoyment. With it, the students begin to learn a new language the language of science - in the same way they listen, learn to speak, and absorb meanings from the cradle: through repetition. It contains simple science concepts. It teaches science vocabulary students will learn, not by memorizing definitions but by repetition. It has opportunities for activities in reading, measurement, language, writing, drawing and telling. It suggests hands-on lab activities that are fun for both student and teacher. It calls for teacher/student interaction. The results? Science is learned while reading is improved. Neither is sacrificed.
