Jacob's father plants the seeds of a message for his son in this story as well. They sit just under the surface. Sown throughout are preconceived notions that we all have about others and the misfortune that we bring upon ourselves if they aren't recognized for what they are.

And finally:

Christmas has always been the most special season for me. At no other time during the year is the sense of hope and optimism for the future of all humankind so widespread or sustained at such a high level for such duration. The feeling starts with a gentle flutter even before Thanksgiving and lifts on the wings of its own momentum. It rises in lofty flight carrying tolerance well into the hopes and resolutions of the new year before making a forced landing under a heavy load of the reality of human prejudice. It was an honor to conduct this interview with the symbol of goodwill.
