MoreThe first in the series. The Kansas City Marvels: The FBI Briefcase, is a story about nine fatherless kids who form their own baseball team so they can play on the ball diamond they created for themselves in an abandoned hay field west of the Kansas City Airport. The Marvels can't afford to belong to a Little League team, but they are so good at their game that everyone wants a chance to play them. The local teams just can't wait to get trounced. The kids are free spirits; the way kids used to be in the early years of this country. They spend their long summer days on their bikes, wandering the airport grounds and the rest of their territory west of I-29. They play games they've devised themselves and get into minor trouble. One day that changes when they find a briefcase at the "port", as they call KCI, and become involved up to their little necks in the FBI's business. Life changes drastically for them. Soon things get out of control and now there's no going back to those carefree days of batting and catching practice. The kids are helpless to prevent the unfolding of a dark mystery, so sinister that it threatens their very own lives. The Marvels find it necessry to take matters into their own hands as they solve thier first case for the FBI.
