Kirk, a scholar and novelist, spent a year rewriting Wacousta, from a reliable facsimile of the first edition, eliminating what modern readers might consider dull, abstract verbiage in the original but retaining the exciting plot and authentic details. Kirk's version of "Wacousta" is half the length of Richardson's, but no important scenes have been lost.The original "Wacousta" was and is a literary treasure that magnificently captures North America's distant past.
