The story highlights the unique aspects of Sam including his affinity for keys and gum. It depicts the interactions with his family, teachers and friends, demonstrating both the learning difficulties he deals with as well as his strengths and positive relationships with the people in his life. The action highlight of the story occurs when, after returning home from school, Sam follows his dog away from his home and soon finds himself lost.
