Designed to enhance the speech therapy session. The fluency game will help the person who stutters go foward with his speech and "just do it"--that is, just go for speech. It will bring the stuttering out in the open and help the person who stutters learn to accept himself for who he is. This helps the person who stutters desensitze himself and to learn there is nothing to be ashamed of. By bringing the stuttering out in the open, more confidence will follow. By letting go of the fear, the person who stutters reduces the emotions that trigger the lack of fluency. Instead o9f giving into stress, shame, guilt, fear, and embarrassment, the person who stutters will go foward with speech with acceptance and develop a better attitude, self-confidence, and enthusiasm. The Fluency Game was developed by acertified speech and language pathologists. Suzanne M. Barnes, M.A., CCC-SLP,COM., who had her own speech difficulties as a child. She is a director of Speech and Language Associates in Arcadia, CA. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Oklahoma in speech pathology and has A Msters of Arts degree in speech pathology and audiology from Columbia University, N.Y. She is licensed throug the California State Board of Medical Quality Assurance, and certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. She is a member of the California Speech Pathologists and Audiologists in Private Practice, the California Speech and Hearing Association, the American Speech Language and Hearing association, and the international association of Oralfacial Myology. She received The 1996 District 7 Outstanding Acheivement award from The California Speech Language and Hearing Association. Throughout her twenty-year career as a speech and language pathologists, Suzanne has had an avid interest in helping people who stutter and their families.
