In both poetry and prose, Welch explores the unsettling power of paintings and statues to enthrall and alter their perceivers. She encounters Colville's light on her Maritime home terrain, revisits with Rodin her native Luxembourg, lingers in Monet's Giverny garden and on Cezanne's Mont Saint-Victoire, walks with the Giacomettis through Switzerland, follows Caravaggio and Lotto through Italy, and joins Vermeer's women in their intimate writing chambers. Like her poem/painting correspondence with Luxembourg artist Gust Graas, "Untethered in Paradise" is a joyful and intense engagement with the art works that colour a life.
